What if...

Many have never considered their ethical, moral, patriotic duty to disobey illegal orders. Failure to have considered your position is not the same as to have decided to be your enemy. Alienating the thoughtless is actually counterproductive. Alienating other supporters of RKBA is likewise counterproductive.

I serve, and I uphold the laws. I also know where my line is drawn. I know what I will do and what I won't. This line is pretty bright, and follows my morality. I have thought a lot about it. I would thus have no excuse, were I to come to your door, "following orders," and demanded your guns.

Gunslinger and Correia make their points well. We NEED good guys in the system, to do the right things.

Best,

L.P.

I used to think about it a lot when I was in the Army and it always seemed logical to me that when and if the call came to go out and do such a thing to our own people, that there would be enough of us who didn't agree. My plan would simply be to get my rifle issued to me, and my partners would get theirs, get our ammo and then run like hell in the best vehicle we could get our hands on. Use their own equipment against them. Why not? At that point a major Revolution would have begun anyway. We may as well get some good equipment while the military was still stupid enough to give it to people that they thought they could trust.

ArmySon and others of like mind,

I admire your position, but it's becoming increasingly rare. My neighbor's son, a fine upstanding young man, was recently recruited into a federal agency. I remember once speaking to him over a family lunch about firearms. He mirrored the sentiment of those brought up under the influence of the Constitution haters. In his words, "only the National Guard needs to have guns. If you're in the National Guard you're covered, if not you need to turn in all your guns when the time comes." This is more and more the feeling among young people. I pray to the Lord it never happens, but it's just possible that in our life times we may have to stand shoulder to shoulder with those who defend the Constitution or with those who would see it destroyed.

Sadly, Tecolote is correct. I'm a college student in TX, and every time someone comes to my room they emote a perplexed look on their face after seeing my HK posters. Owning firearms or having an affinity for firearms has become extremely un-PC. My friends laughed when they saw my HK posters. They probably think I'm a right wing extremist.

There will be no shootouts. All that needs to be done is pass a law requiring the registering of all guns. If you want a hunting license you will need to show that you are useing a registered gun. That same will apply to ranges. Nobody will come to your home looking for them...but don't get caught with an unregistered gun. And the LEO's will arrest you as they will be dealing with one individual at a time.

Badriver makes a good point, It's going to be VERY difficult to get the guns and the Anti's know this. They also know that the weak link in the chain is ammo and reloading supplies. Your family can keep guns hidden for hundreds of years if they want but the ammo will only last so long.

Who is going to supply a revolution? not the Brits, the French or the Russians. I think we are the Lost Brigade, all alone on a battle ground with little hope of resupply or reinforcement.

Great thread guys. A lot of strong currents are running here! Frankly, I know a few fairly senior FLEOs and I am glad they are inside. If "TSHTF", they will be incredibly valuable "inside" where they can tip off strategy, tactics, intentions, timing, and of course the names and addresses of the more rabid constitution tramplers. We all know the meaning of "all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC". So help us God....

I have long pondedered the question of what percentage of the military and LEOs will refuse or ignore an order for gun confiscation. While I realize there will be some who know what the Constitution means, I thinnk the majority either don't know or don't care, they'll just follow orders.

As for those who believe in the second amendment as written and choose to stay with their agencies while ignoring this order, how long will it be before the brass notices that Officer X isn't making any gun arrests or confiscations? How long before they call him on the carpet and he's faced with either resigning or getting with the program? How many military personel will end up in the brig for refusing to obey a direct order? How many will cave when faced with a direct threat to their personal well-being?

After this all happens, who will be left in those agencies? Those who obey the order without question. Those who stayed on and "changed their ways" to obey orders will be closely watched, and of little or no use to the civilian resistance movement.

As has been pointed out, the biggest threat will probably not come from a confiscation order, but from the current "boiling the frog" strategy. When it's done one or two at a time, and the targets are demonized, how many of the good guys on the inside of LEO & military will be able to recognize the orders for what they are?

Disturbing stuff. At what point do we literally draw a line in the sand and say "No, we won't abide this" to all the little nibbles here and there as being part of a great big bite out of liberty?
