What If Your Spouse Can't Shoot Your Carrygun

My wife cannot fire any gun at all, so it doesn't matter to me. I suppose if I was dying, I would hand her my P32 and hope she could pull the trigger enough to save her life.

I don't see why its a problem - let her carry whatever she wants / and you carry whatever you want. The issue is both of you should be comfortable and confident with whatever you choose to carry / and what condition you choose to carry it in.

Like someone else said - the chance of this becoming a problem is less than both of you getting hit by lightning .....

Unquestionably, she should have what SHE perfers, what fits HER and what SHE can fully and easily operate. Would you make her drive a standard transmission vehicle if should couldn't operate the clutch?

Call me silly, but I make it a point to make sure my wife can operate all the guns we own. Some she operates better than others :D She is better with revolvers, so I keep one on the nightstand. This way either of us can employ it if need be with little trouble. My wife can shoot my P3AT. She doesn't like it, but she can operate it if she had to.

Not with a Makarov. They don't malfunction. You can look it up.

I'll bet if I looked on youtube I could find videos of people running over Mak's at 40mph with a Humvee and the Mak would still work fine.

I think it's important that anybody who is going to be coming into contact with the gun at least know how to safely operate it (this could be your wife, kid, etc). I don't think it's important that she be able to operate it with expertise or even like it, but just that she knows the basics of how it works. As long as she has her own c.c. gun I don't see a problem with her not being good at operating yours (just as long as she knows how it's supposed to be done).

I face this with SWMBO. Would I make her drive a standard when she can't operate the clutch? Well, in reality it works the other way around. I'd rather drive a standard, but since she can't work a clutch or a shifter then both of our vehicles are automatics. You see, in a pinch or on a road trip she needs to be able to drive my truck. She has it in her mind that she doesn't have the ability to work a standard and has no desire to even try to learn. She won't budge on this. Case closed.

I'm the same way. Even though I know that there are some of them that she just won't shoot at the range (she likes hers, and the .22, and my 686, and that's it), I've made it a point to stress to her that should it come down to it, she needs to be able to operate each and every weapon that we have. Her life as well as mine just might depend on it.
