What if I was attacked by gang members?

How do I as a citizen guard myself against gang attack from the hoodlums that be in these neighborhoods?

really?

1) have solid steel welded in place of windows and doors at your residence.

2) join the meals on wheels program

3) subscribe to a cable or satellite tv provider

4) wait till either the groups of whippersnappers.... or yourself..... pass on

honestly, from the tone of your post.... your only real option is to move.

it sounds like urban youth has been replaced by roaming hoards of murderous psychopaths.....
from your description, its almost as if you are living the film "i am legend"

if that's the case, and you dont move, then you are simply asking to be slaughtered.

the best defense is avoidance

As things get worse, so does violent crime as jobs become less and violents youths flood the street.
Sigh. Folks, it is actually fairly easy to chek on this stuff. Violent crime is not getting worse, violent youths are not flooding the streets.

blasphemy

the youths... they congregate... and the only possible outcome is murder, rape, and extra-violent sodomy

Crime is NOT getting worse. That said, the basic high crime rate of pretty much any city is one more reason that all the "perks" of city life just don't add up.

Live in the country where a violent crime is so rare that when it does happen it's talked about for months, not forgotten when it happens again the next night.

I'm sure there are PLENTY of attacks waiting for me as soon as I post this, I've seen and heard it all before. Fact is, if you live in a dangerous place for ANY reason you're saying that, whatever that reason is, it is worth more than your life. Never seemed like a good plan to me.

I live in a inner city environment and almost all the teens look like gang-bangers. In reality most of them are not. Its a fashion. I still avoid groups, and carry my piece, but they don't freak me out anymore. I actually know a few of them from my job, and most are ok kids living in a tough place. Lots of times home is a nasty small overcrowded apartment, so they hang on the streets with their friends.

I would suggest avoiding those that have tear tattoos on eyes, and ones who seem ready to give out extra violent sodomy lessons. Those guys, tho, tend to be older.

Never seen a baggie pants low ridding gang banger that could take more than 2 or 3 steps without stopping to pull them up.
LOL!!!!

Personally, I like to use frags on gangs. :)

Seriously though, I dont live in inner city and Im pretty sure that if roving gangs showed up out here they would be met with a gauntlet of lead and un-marked graves.

There was one period while walking around Minneapolis when I must have walked into the wrong store or something, because I was being watched with devious intent, and followed out into the parking lot. Gang Members? I dont think so, but still a concern.

One more reason why CCW is priority #1 on the day of my 21st birthday.

If you're already getting beat up by a gang of kids it's too late to pull a weapon much less try to reach for it, best thing to do is fight back and try to distance your self to get away. I'm a big guy and use to compete in power lifting but even I know I cant take 2 or more people so if I find myself where I'm getting jumped then I am prepared to fight dirty by fish hooking, biting, and poking eyes out do whatever it takes to hurt them and get away. Should I get hurt and knocked down then just curl up and protect your neck and head it's almost impossible to get up when you have 2 or more people kicking you and the less you resist the sooner they will probably just run off.

I take the OP to mean in a certain neighborhood he travels things are going downhill and not jumping to critical conclusions that you are panicking about the world.

In that case, like others said avoid the area if possible. If not, then most"gangs" are going to attack from multiple directions. When one is coming straight onto you, watch out for the one or more coming up from behind or from the side.

If your car is stopped in that area and one or more guys approach you, then move! That means always leave enough space between your front bumper and the car ahead so that you can swing out right away. Better to risk running a red light if traffic permits than to get boxed in by possible attackers.

If there is some civil unrest event or disaster then go out of your way to avoid traversing a known bad area. If you see the street up ahead jammed up or road blocked then turn around or detour immediately. Don't get boxed in.

I guess some people prefer it to extra-gentle-cuddly-sodomy.
No, I'd just like it if they'd buy me a few drinks first :p

But seriously. If it's really that bad, move. My dad moved my family to a nicer neighborhood to avoid all the crime we had to deal with. My parents sold their cars and bought cheaper ones. We stopped going on $1000 vacations. Cut other needless expenses. He told me that, "if your family isn't safe, then all those nice things are for nothing."

I appreciate him every day for getting us out of there. The place we were in wasn't a warzone, but it was enough to warrant us moving.

What many of you are saying is WRONG. You do not "stand your ground". That kind of thinking is downright stupid and irresponsible. If you have a chance to run, DO IT. If they attempt to follow, or if they get too close before you can run, use your firearm.

I'd say it depends on what state we're talking about.

You don't and can't know this. Each situation is different. You could very well be running from a situation in which you have at least some chance of defending yourself to one in which you're caught off guard and essentially helpless. And what if you are in the company of children or others you must protect who cannot run as fast as you?

There simply is no one size fits all, neat and tidy response to all situations one might encounter, because there are always variables you couldn't contemplate beforehand. It's naive and dangerous to suggest otherwise.

There's no such thing as fighting "dirty" or fighting "clean" - you're either fighting to save your life or you aren't. Any and all tactics you can think of should be employed if you somehow find yourself in a physical confrontation with another person (presumably YOU didn't start the fight, of course). That includes ear boxing, eye gouging, testicle kicks, shin scrapes, foot stomps, etc. etc. - all of it. In such a situation, you should never, ever refrain from taking advantage of a technique available because you think it's unfair or dirty - it just might save your life.
