What has apparently been left out of the stopping power, caliber vs. caliber debate

I am not trying to get a flame war going but I have noticed in my travels around the country that LEO TAC units are going back to the .45ACP-------many in a 1911 configuration.

I wonder if it's the momentum of this round that is the reason. Also, if you are toting a short-barreled .45ACP like a Glock 36, who cares about expansion since the .45 has plenty of diameter in it's unfired state. As Cooper hints, it needs no more expansion.

Stopping Power? Whats that?
Emotions aside I think 9mm on up will work. Though I much prefer a 44 or 45 for psychological reasons.

Both of the people that I have interviewed personally that have shot goblins with handguns noted the same thing...no real effect. One was a detective who put two in the chest of a goblin [with a 9mm]. Said Goblin then departed thru a closed window and was found dead a few blocks away by the cops.

The other was in LE at the time and killed a would be cop killer. But he noted how his shots didn't seem to be having any effect. And he was using a major caliber. He now prefers 44 mags when he gets a choice for CCW.

IMO a pepperbox revolver would be about ideal for most real world defense situations...since it would make for a a good contact shot weapon. Backed by a glock or 1911 for "offensive" defense [aiding someone else or for dealing with rifle armed opponent] you would have most bases covered.

YMMV

In this day and age of lawsuits and litigations in a urban area where there might be bystanders and/or other people who might get hurt it would be wise to have a rapidly expanding bullet so it stays in the bad guy. I respect Col. Cooper for what he's done for the shooting sports and for all of us involved in firearms. But the attitude of "they all fall to hardball" or "bad guys are stopped 19 out of 20 times to hardball" is dangerously misleading to impressionable minds. In a 45 I would lean more toward 185 grain loads in short barreled guns with +P loads even better. My house gun is a G-21 loaded with 185 golden sabres +P's. I live in the country now and all the kids bedrooms are downstairs which is even better. When I go to the woods with my Glock it's loaded with 185 grain TMJ +P's. All I'm sayin' is be careful what you stok your thing with whatever your "thing" might be. Best, J. Parker

I agree aout the hardball. Why shoot it? Unless your gun cant feed hollow points. If it cant get rid of it. Shooting hollow points with a .45 you always have the chance that it is going to work and expand

Practice is mandatory.

The farther out you engage the more time you have to seek cover.

You WILL revert to what you practice.

Accuracy, power, speed. Think about it (in that order).

Any hole is better than no hole, and the best hole is the biggest.

Ball ammo sucks. If your gun doesn't feed quality modern HP's get a better gun.

Carry two guns.

Just my thoughts on this subject..........
