Where I am now, and where I grew up, it is and was never an issue. The neighbors are too far away and can't see anything anyway. They can
hear, but oh well. Since one owns a small gunshop and the others are johnny-come-latelys to the area I just don't worry about it.
Now when I lived in town for those few, long, miserable, depressing, limiting, years the neighbors were nuts. The old lady behind us found some 7.62 rnds that had dropped out of my truck, talked to the attorney across the street who said they were illegal and called the cops. The chief and his right hand man(both friends of mine) showed up, looked at everyone involved as if they were insane, told me to not leave things where it would scare the sheep and left. After that I took a lot of enjoyment packing at least one AK clone, an AR and my Spas out to the truck every Saturday, whether I was going shooting or not.
At least once a month the chief would ask "Will you please stop that, you're going to give the lawyer a stroke and the old lady is going to give me one!"
It was interesting at least.
