What happened?

You guys are funny. I shoot several thousand rounds of Rem. Golden Bullets through 6 different 22's a year and other than an occasional dud, i don't have any problems. I also have an occasional dud with American Eagle, Fed and Win bulk, and even had one out of a box of Fed Auto-Match.

The Golden Bullets do create more powder fouling in my guns, but every time I see these threads I just scratch my head wondering why everyone else has so much trouble with this ammo. It's cheap. I don't expect alot out of it, but it sure slays alot of gophers for me every year.

Oh and as far as firing out of battery, which is what the pics from the OP look like to me, I'd be looking at the firearm more than the ammo. Any ammo....

The 597 will fire out of battery, which is a design flaw that I think got looked over.

Wow didn't know that. Never owned one. I'll stick with my 10/22's, Savages, and Henrys.......:D

On a blowback semiauto, there has to be a little tolerence to a not completely closed bolt or else you get nusience refusals to fire if everything is not perfect. On my S&W model 41 pistol, I can hold the bolt open by about 1/16 of an inch and it will still drop the hammer, any more than that and the trigger is locked.
At least the gun was designed so that any gasses from a ruptured case is vented in a safe direction.

Any brand of ammo will rupture like that if the bolt is not completely closed. The bulged portion of the case it the case that was not in the chamber when the firing pin dropped.
