What happened to the Glock model 40?

Gah! Raaaaaargh! Aieeeee!

Why, oh, why couldn't Gaston have just skipped that model number? WHYYYY?

Now I'll have no idea what people are talking about when they ask me for Glock Forty clips.

Sort of related-

Does anyone have a line on whether the Gen 4 30s is coming out for the shot show? I'm looking to buy one, but I'd prefer not to waste it on the current Gen if the new one is coming out finally. I keep hearing it is, and it isn't.

I had a somewhat inside source tell me that the Gen4 30S would be announced at SHOT 2015.... however.. that was months ago and with all of the leaked info coming out I haven't seen a peep about the Gen4 30S so I'm becoming less convinced.

I really hope it is though. I definitely want one. I have no interest in the Gen3.

Customer: "I'm looking for a Glock 40."
Counter: "The 23 or the 22."
Customer: "I don't want no .22. That ain't no round for an operator."
Counter: "I meant the 23 or 22 in .40 Smith & Wesson."
Customer: "I said I wanted a Glock, not a Smith & Wesson."
Counter: "No, the caliber is called a .40 Smith & Wesson."
Customer: "No, this one started with a "1"."
Counter: "Oh, you mean the Glock model 40 in 10mm."
Customer: "Yeah, that's the one."
Counter: "I'm sorry, we don't have those yet. They're allocated."

"What's 'allocated?' My buddy has one. He ran ops for Ninja Task Force Triton. You know, come to think of it, I don't want a 10mm. It's just one bigger than a 9mm, and that won't kill anything."

About the Model 30S:

I have no interest in the Gen3.

I am not sure what a Gen 4 G30S will give that isn't already on the Gen 3 G30S. The current one uses the SF frame, which I have read is the basis for the Gen 4 large frame, before any of the pin-on back-straps are put in place.

The current G30S has what looks like the same new recoil spring that they are putting into the Gen 4 pistols. And I cannot feel any difference in trigger pull when I compare my Gen 4 G19 to my G30S, which is not Gen 4. Yes, yes, maybe a little bit of apples and oranges comparison there, since those models are not of the same frame size. But the triggers feel the same.

I will be honest, I want one. I like my gen2 20 like it is and I would like one setup for hunting with optics. They should have upgraded the sights though.

My interest is in the grip texture for the 30s. Since it already has all the other trappings, like the springs. Not a big deal I guess and maybe I'll wind up with a Gen 3, but it is just dumb that the 30 Gen 4 is available but not this. Though a lot of things Glock does make no sense.
