What happened to the Glock model 40?

Seems like Gaston skipped the number 40 in his pistol line-up:

Glock 39 = subcompact .45 GAP
Glock 40 = missing ???
Glock 41 = Practical-Tactical longer-slide .45 ACP
Glock 42 = supercompact .380

Any speculation/information about what the Glock model 40 will be if/when it is announced?

Thanx, Dave.

NO one was professional enough to carry one. Couldn't resist.

Actually, there is speculation but no real info. One theory was that the number would be confusing with the round if it wasn't a 40 SW round.

I once asked an officer if he was carrying a Glock 22 and he got all upset. It's not a 22 - it's a 40! :D

Glock 40 = missing ???
...and thank goodness it is! :)

They appear (somewhat wisely) to have skipped Model 40. Given the fact that "Glock 40" has become shorthand for "Glock pistol chambered in .40 S&W" in the popular vernacular, having an actual gun called the "Glock 40" would have caused no end of confusion.

I for one thank Gaston for that decision.

I wonder if there will be a Glock 45, or a Glock 357 in the very distant future. Anyways, aren't the model numbers based off of the number of patents? He had to have had a 40th patent, but maybe Glock decided to just name their 40th patent the G41...which is still pretty confusing.

I hope we haven't reached the point where manufacturers are dumbing-down their nomenclature to match the wits of gang-bangers.

Actually, I'm hoping for a Practical-Tactical length 10mm, since the model 20 (10mm) preceded the model 21 (.45acp). With a little more barrel length, some of the full-power 10mm loadings (Buffalo Bore, Double-Tap, etc) could generate close to 800 ft-lbs of energy!

So, the Glock model 40 will be a .22 rimfire ???

There's a certain semetry to that, if it were true.

Besides, I already have a Ciener conversion kit that lets me shoot .22LR out of my Glock model 22 . . . . . :D

Still holding my breath for a long-slide 10mm . . . . .

Maybe, I could get a Glock model 41, then swap in a Glock 6" 10mm Hunting barrel and use model 20 magazines? Would that even work???

Thanx, Dave.

I like that idea, but it would be nice if they would just release a long slide, or better yet, if more companies would jump on the 10mm. Does anyone know if Glocks have ever been released out of order before? I tried googling it, but I suck.

Classic. I rarely literally LOL here so thanks for that :)

Model numbers are confusing, caliber names are confusing, standards are confusing, but that keeps the industry interesting, eh? So sure, why not a Glock model 40 in .22 GAP? Marketed toward professionals, of course.

There was some speculation along those lines around the time of the 2010 SHOT Show. I can only imagine the dismay and terror of thousands of gun-shop clerks at such a possibility.

About that "who's on first?" gag in the previous link

I just want you all to know that the "Tam" lines come from TFL veteran Tamara.

I wish I could have seen that.

Thought it may be relevant to bring this thread back and fill in the missing model...
