What guns are women buying?

My wife "tried on" a lot of guns before buying.
She owns and shoots

M&P9 - It was the only quality full sized 9mm that had a grip/reach small/short enough for her to use comfortably. I try to limit her to 200 rounds per range trip.

SP101 in .357 with 3" barrel - She feels she is most accurate with full powered .357 loads. She'll consent to use .38 special and will generally shoot a box or two a trip.

Firestorm .380 - This is her purse gun. It's made by Bersa but has better sights and a more comfortable grip surface than the Bersa Thunder model. She will only shoot a box or so at a time with this since I don't reload for it.

She's decided she wants a nice AR. I need to buy more brass.
She would never agree to a pink gun.

G19

My girl loves her G19, mostly due to simplicity...

I 'girled' it up a bit for her...

The wife carries a Sig P238 9mm in a Crossbreed Supertuck.

At the range, she shoots whatever I stuffed into the bag that day. Her current fav is my STI 1911 Spartan in 45ACP.

Since we got back from Front Sight she is scary good, she could shoot before but now its mostly inside the 9 ring at 7 yards.

The only problem I have with pink guns, as well as orange and yellow guns is that they could possibly be confused as toy guns. I don't have a problem with colors on guns and I've even thought about having one myself. It's just another thing to consider.

Do I have the only wife who detests pink?

No, another one here, at least for guns. Suzy's been spending increasing amounts of time with me at the range, and she likes the black ones. In fact, I think she's going to claim the Bersa Thunder .22 as her very own, and has been showing interest in a compact 9mm for herself.

All in black, of course. Pink is for articles of clothing, etc.

You know, Tom Servo, the term "polishing a ****" leaps to mind with some of the colored guns out there.

Meanwhile, my wife dislikes pink things in general, so it isn't only the condescension implicit. The only pink thing she owns is a tour T-shirt from a Toby Keith concert, and if that had been available in any other color she wouldn't have it.

The wife is all about functionality. Farmgirl, now a nurse, so go figure... But she either wants a car that gets great gas mileage, or else a functional 4x4 utility, or else a 4x4 F250 for pulling a 2-horse trailer in any reasonable terrain. IE, she wants something that does a task well; she generally does not care about flash factor.

She is not all that into guns, but her preferences in firearms are along the lines of "What will do the job?" and "what do I like to shoot?" And she has shot most of my guns, at some time or another. She can handle .44 magnum recoil, but doesn't like it. (Quite honestly, neither do I.)

If it were easier to get suppressed weapons, I would do so, because one of the main things that turns her off to shooting is the noise. She gets a headache. Indoor ranges are among her least favorite things. She can tolerate outdoor ranges pretty well, as evidenced by regular attendance at IDPA; but even outdoors, I think she'd prefer practicing with something suppressed.

Edit: interesting, I used a word for bovine excrement that isn't normally considered a cuss word, yet it still got censored. Anyway, Mods, I didn't expect that word to be a problem, and wasn't trying to get around anything.

Fortunately, my wife considers pink guns or guns with pink grips as tacky-looking. Two weeks ago she bought her first handgun, a LNIB S&W 3913 Ladysmith 9mm semi-auto. She still gravitated toward a gun that was more or less marketed to females, but she said it felt better in her hand then the Glocks and some other double stack polymer guns she handled (my Goverment Model Colt 1911 is too heavy for her and she said my BHPs were too fat for her hands, even with Spegel grips installed). I have to say it feels pretty good in my hand as well, and is pretty sharp-looking for a 3rd gen S&W auto. We have not had a chance to fire it yet.

At the local range it seems Bersa Thunder .380s seem to be the dominant handgun choice among the women I see shooting, second place would appear to be Taurus .38 snubs.

Had a girl show up and go out on a date once who was carrying a fully loaded, hammer cocked .45 1911 in her purse. More manly than any CCW weapon I have! : )

If you Google you can find pink, fushia, polka-dotted whatever AR 15's. I guess a fashionable weapon is appealing to women??

Just two days ago,,,

A server at my favorite watering hole asked me to help her find a pink gun.

I asked her if the gun had to be pink,,,
Or would a stainless steel gun with pink grips do it.

Hey, I don't care,,,
Whatever it takes to get more ladies shooting.

Aarond

The single stack Bersa Thunder in .380 makes perfect sense. The two tone looks pretty good and they don't cost much. I haven't shot one but they do feel really good in the hand and light weight. I have bigger hands but I wouldn't mind having one as a CCW.

Hhmmm....I favor 10mm, and high-capacity .45acp in semi-autos. In revolvers, I've favored .357mag, but I'm getting wistful about a .44mag---just not sure what flavor yet.--Patrice

Do I have the only wife who detests pink?

She thinks stainless is pretty, though, whether on firearms or large appliances.

No, most women shooters I know say something like "steel is sexy" or my personal favorite. "This pistol looks all business" (She was refering to a stainless ruger GP100)

There is nothing wrong with pink if presented in the proper manner. We had a recent discussion on the shotgun side of the forum about pink shotgun shells with a portion of the revenue donated to "Breast Cancer Awarness". Now, this is when pink would not be condecending. It might be even a good selling point if the pink gun was engraved with "Breast Cancer Awarness". Even better if a portions of the purchase price were donated to this worthy cause.

Women and guns

I have a Marlin .17 HMR, a Taurus .22LR 4", a Judge 3" cylinder 6" barrel and just got a Ruger GP100 6" barrel .357 Mag for Christmas. NOTHING in pink!!!! If my husband ever bought me a pink gun of any kind as a gift he would be living in the garage!
