Not even sure if this is a real question, or what the purpose or the age or sex of the individual in need of a shotgun is.

But for an adult to use for either home defense or hunting, the 12 gauge wins hands down.

The ammo is the most common and versatile. Just bought some Estate Buckshot on sale for .36 cents per shell shipped to my door. Try that with a 16 or 20 gauge. Economies of scale mean that ammo production is much cheaper.

You can get it in reduced recoil shot for smaller framed adults. You can get into the magnum loads for the burliest of folks wanting to advance the decay of their shoulders. :cool:

They are able to take probably most game in North America from foul, small game and large mammals and reptiles. A rifled slug is accurate enough out to a decent range. And while some may argue that other guns are superior, the 12 gauge is among the supreme choice for home defense in 00, 01, or 04 buckshot.
