What Else Do I Need?

This is a bit of a "fun" thread for me, really just to brainstorm ideas. I have a number of handguns right now and am somewhat stuck as I'm not sure what else I need in my collection. Here's the current lineup:

S&W 4" 67 - .38 special
S&W 6" 686 - .357 mag
Ruger 4" Blackhawk 50th Anniversary - .357 mag
CZ-82 - 9mm Mak
CZ-75b - 9mm
Beretta 92fs Police Special - 9mm
Beretta PX4 Storm - 9mm
Browning Hi-Power Practical - 9mm
Sig/Sauer P226 - 9mm
Sig/Sauer SP2022 - 9mm
Walther P1 - 9mm
Springfield XD40 - .40 S&W
Kimber Custom Classic Target - .45 ACP

Keep in mind that I live in IL so there is no concealed carry (if there were than a Kahr CM9 would be on my list). Also, most of my shooting is informal target... I don't participate in competitive shooting. And, I typically don't like owning duplicates of the same type of handgun (ex: I won't be someone who owns 10 1911's, not that there's anything wrong w/ that). I'm also into shooting things I can afford so I don't get into extremely large bore handguns (and I have no desire to punish myself with a caliber that has no practical application for me).

So, what do you see is missing from this list that has you flabbergasted or thinking, "I can't believe there's not a such and such in that list?" Besides the obvious lack of a .22 (had a Hi Standard H-D Military to sold it in part to fund the purchase of an M1 Garand). Part of me has considered selling off many of these and owning just a few VERY nice handguns (ex: sell a few and buy a Wilson Combat 1911), but I do like having the variety of toys.

Even though you mentioned it yourself,,,

I feel obligated to mention that you do have an appalling lack of rimfire handguns.

You have a CZ-75B,,,
Get a CZ-75B Kadet to go with it.

You have a Model 67,,,
Get a Model 18 to go with it.

You have a Sig 226,,,
Get a 226 Classic 22 to go with it.

You have a Kimber 45 ACP,,,
Get a .22 conversion kit to go with it.

See,,,
Easy-Peasy. :D

Yes, I know. Just haven't had a big desire to shoot .22 the past several years. I'll pick one up when my sons are older but for now I can reload .38 special cheap and I don't get a ton of time to shoot as it is.

I would definitely add an N frame S&W revolver ....model 27 in .357 mag ...in 4" or 6" ...or a model 29 in .44 mag...6" or 8 3/8" ...

and a .22 revolver ....like a model 18 S&W ....in 4"

A Browning Buckmark .22 would be a good addition ....

and probably another 1911 in 9mm ...( Springfield, Wilson Combat, or whatever your budget will allow ).

You seem to be partial to 9mm.....how about a 1911 chambered for 9mm?
I would also think a shorter barrel revolver might fit for something a little different.....a model 19, 2 1/2 inch, or maybe a 686, 2 inch.

I also recommend at least one .22

Looking at your list I'd say:
Something chambered in .45 Colt maybe a nice single action or an old S&W 25
An old Walther PP or PPk maybe even a P-38 (the P-38 is on my want list)
a P08 Luger
Colt 1903 or 1908
and I think everyone should own at least one snubnose .38

The P1 kind of fills the P-38 niche although the P-1 is alloy framed. P08 Luger is something I've always wanted and I love only 45 minutes from one of the foremost luger shops in the nation.

Don't own any subnoses since I can't carry concealed in Illinois and most of my shooting is informal range or plinking.

Yep, no .45 Long Colt there and no break top revolvers either. Come to think of it there is a glaring lack of .32s as well. We simply must remedy these shortcomings toot sweet. :) Ain't it fun spending other people's money. :D

S&W 29-2 44mag 6.5" blue
Hk P7M8
Hk Mark 23 maritime finish
Sig p210-6
Walther P88
Walther PPS
FN five seven buy some AP SS190 ammo
Colt 1903
Colt 1851 Navy (a nice 2nd gen)
Then if you get bored you can start collecting AMU/USAR pistols

Oh yea and make sure to sprinkle on some Glocks (some 17, 19, 20sf) LOTS LOTS LOTS of Glocks

Great Collection...

But I think you need to add a Colt Detective Special...pre or post 1972... just to round it out. :D

Hmmm... warming up to that 9mm 1911 idea. Not a huge Glock fan here. Have had very limited shooting time with them, but at first use aren't as comfortable for me as my XD and not sure what a Glock does for me that my XD doesn't.

A Colt; Defender

Love to check out the store someday, a little too far north for an afternoon drive.

Maybe carry will pass, someday.

S&W 17 or 617 22lr
CZ Kadet kit 22lr
S&W 41 or 46 22lr
S&W 25 or 625 45 acp

all great for informal target shooting, no duplicates of what you have, very pleasant to shoot, no additional calibers picked up, and not expensive to shoot. can be found used..

the 22's are more than what i'd rate as plinkers, and see a lot of use..

aarond has a point...
centerfire and rimfire in the same platform, same grip, same weight..
whether its the cz, or a S&W 14/17...

Surveyor beat me to it...

S&W 625 and 317

May not be a glock fan, but if you look at your list and say "I dont know what a glock does for me" its kinda funny. Invest in one (they're cheap) and see if you like it. Since no ccw grab a gen 4 17. I have an xdm and a 17. I love them both.
