What Do You Use For HD?

Wolfdog45 made a believer out of me. He made me glad I just ordered my first .45 to go along with my shotguns. Now I don't feel quite so self-indulgent.

Oklahombre has a good idea. I might as well move my chainsaw into the house, too, to add to the collection.

Well, first there's the guards at the gate, with their M9's M4's and Beneli pumps. Then there's my wife's attack cats (don't laugh they both weigh about 20lbs and have an extreme hatred of people)
Then there's my wife and all her sharp pointy stuff, (she has a thing for knives and swords)
There's the louisville slugger and it's cousin the pickaxe handle next to the front and back doors respectively.
Then there's my 870 HD with mag ext and a big stack of cheap buckshot and slugs:)

I already have my chainsaw in the house, well in the basement that is.
I believe that every one should own at least one .45

Mossberg 20" "Special Purpose", cylinder bore, loaded w/ 3" S&B 15 pellet 00 buck (8+1 w/ 2 3/4 shells, but 7+1 with the 3"). PG and folding stock.

Backup/alternatives:

Hi-Point carbine w/ "Black Talon" +P+
1 standard issue SKS
1 SKS-M (takes AK mags, 240 rounds loaded in spare mags)

That's assuming they get past the 4 German Shepherds, 3 of which are trained protection dogs.

No, I don't lock my doors at night:D

From what I have always heard from LE and legal counsel, the best thing to shoot a BG with is your $5000 bird gun loaded with #8's. If you have a tricked out 870, AR, or .45 that you end up having to use in defense of your home, the BG and/or his family may try to file a suit on the basis that you were planning on killing someone. Just waiting around for someone to pop in so to speak. Now on the other hand, and especially for where I live, I don't think the DA would ever prosecute or get a jury to convict. But if you live in an anti-gun area it might be a different story.

As for me, I just want something that is short, with low recoil, and will make a loud bang. I think that would be sufficient to get someones attention. And if I miss them with all the shells, I'll beat them with it while they are trying to get out of the house. :D

Home Defense Rounds

I used a Remington 1100 Competition Master with #4 buckshot....and am quite confident that if I can't make hamburger with eight rounds of that, then maybe I don't deserve to be here. smiles :)

Remington 870

I have a Remington 870 setup with the following...

1) Knoxx SpecOps Recoil Reducing Stock
2) SureFire 618FA Weapon Mounted Light
3) 8 shot magazine ext.
4) 20" Imp. Cyl. Barrel
5) Knoxx PowerPak shell holder.

Right now it has riffle sights, but I'm thinking of getting a shorter barrel say 18" with just a bead sight. I'm much more accurate with a bead. Surprising, I would have thought it would be the other way around. If I do this, I'll need to move to a shorter magazine extension. The real reason I want to do this is to shorten it up and reduce some weight. That's worth giving up a round or two. Because it will improve accuracy and my stamina.

I love the Knoxx stock. Little to no recoil, even when shooting slug! I can not say enough good things about it!

Hmmm...

I use my Remington 870 Express Magnum 18in loaded with 7 rounds of 2 3/4in 00Buckshot. I also have an AK-47 that I just purchased. This may come into play as a home defense weapon as well, but for now I definitely will be reaching for my 870. By the way I keep the tube filled with one in the chamber and the safety on under my bed.

Primary:
Mossberg 500
18" barrel w/ heatshield
Synthetic forend
Pistol grip
5 rounds of 00 Buck

Backup:
Taurus PT92
18 rounds of 9mm 115 gr JHP

Currently a Remington 870 police trade in with a 20" barrel, 7 round magazine, wood furniture, bead front sight.

I had a Mossberg 590 with the ghost ring sights, extended magazine, bayonet mount, whitelight, plastic furniture with a heavy recoil pad and a 6 shot side saddle. The safety started to lock up on me when shooting and I decided my first love, the 870, would make me happier. The 590 was traded off and the old 870 "came out of the closet". :D

I am planning however to get a semi-auto to better match my AR15 Carbine and pistols. I use the shotgun for home (hurricane :)) defense as well as local three gun competition. A semi will better allow me to concentrate on shooting. Thinking about a Benelli M4 if I can scrape up the funds or a Remington 1187 Police. We will see.

Home Defense

Well as of last friday I became a proud owner of a mossberg 590A1 w/20 inch barrel 8+1 capacity and the infamous double ought buck reduced recoil of course for fast reaquisition but with the double ought buck who needs to re aquire a target am I right:D

I stand corrected on my previous post

After talking to a LEO, he essentialy told me if somebody breaks in my house and I shoot them, Summed up I better Kill them so they arent a witness. needless to say I now use 00 buck. I digress.
