What do you think the problem is?

Gotta go with the "Lord of the Flies Effect"
No father figure and no discipline and no love means children revert to savagery, or never are brought out of it by adults.

My opinion is bound to make more than a few of you mad.
1. A single mother cannot raise a boy to be a man. Never. Can't happen. Won't work. It takes the input of a man to make a man.
2. These cultures are lacking men. Not age wise, but duty wise.
3. This problem will perpetuate itself until more men decide to be a father, and teach their sons that there is a such thing as self-sacrifice, and self-discipline.
4. Men hold a specific role in society just as women do. Our society has spent the last 30 years emasculating (castrating) that role, and trying to make men more like women. Unfortunately, while hard to understand, the male role is just as vital as the female role, and without it, society degenerates into a bunch of people trying to get laid, and ignoring the consequences, because it is more important to feel good than to be good.
Of all the things we can screw up in our lives, there is one thing that we can never recover from nor be forgiven for: Screwing up your kids. Raise them right and set the example even when it hurts, and they will grow up to be MEN.
"raise up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Somewhere from the book of Proverbs.

Find out just what the people will submit to and you've found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows or with both.
The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.
Frederick Douglass, Aug 4 1857

If memory serves me correctly, most of the black crimes are against other blacks. Why? They don't trust each other.

Case in point:
A friend owned a grocery store (true story) and a black friend of his asked one day, " why do you not have any black people working here?"
My friend answered, "OK. You give the black person OF YOUR CHOICE a one-hundred dollar bill (his own of course), and if that person hands THAT SAME bill back to you 30 days later, I'll hire him/her."
The black friend said, "No way!"
My friend replied, " If you won't trust them with your money, how do you expect me to trust them with mine?"

It is a shame, considering that about half the people I know are black, and I trust them, but they trust me more than one another.

KJM, your post is magnificent.

The traditional male role is being assaulted more every day - in the name of "caring" of course.

The very same people pushing the "feminization" of men owuld have no clue as to what your above post means.

Very good post sir.

I'd probably have to say "the welfare system", also. It rewards single parent homes by paying them more.

I took an Ethnic Studies: African Americans class last semester, and nearly all blacks in the class stated or agreed that the welfare system has destroyed the black family. I won't go into the, "it's that way because..." part of the class.

scooter71, you have more restraint than I could muster, you are abused and I feel bad that it is that way. I don't know if we as a people can get there from where we are, or even where there is, but we are in a bad way where we are. I have to believe we are going no where but farther down the drain on our present course. Injustice prevails and continues to grow. Seems to me we've laid back and expected someone else to right injustice and those charged with administering justice fostered more injustice.

Of course I have plenty of room for error but the root of our problems I blame on our fellow citizens, as a people, Americans. We have failed to enforce the supreme Law (Constitution) on government and allowed government to run wild roaming far outside of that Law. I am not saying we ever had total justice but it sure seems we had more justice when our governments were more in line with the Constitution.

At least under the Constitution our injustices were handled on a local level where justice is much more likely to occur. My city mayor told me on the phone that she had to do something because it was a federal law. What she had to do was something concerning our fire department. I already knew the federal government had usurped State's government, all except NH, but had no idea small cities had folded too. They have all folded from greed called revenue sharing.

Our Constitution is the truth in this Republic and until We, the people, enforce the Constitution I expect no better justice in our lives and even worse injustice in our children's lives.

I appreciate what the other posters had to say in this string too and I wish you all, Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Years ago there was a situation in New York that warrants notice . A Puerto Rican kid named Eddie Perez was a street kid . He ran with the wrong crowd but was not a real threat to anyone . Then one day he somehow secured a .38 pistol . Back in those days shooting was called "burning" someone . This gun changed Eddies life almost overnight . His nickname became Eddie The Burner and the one girl that he liked but never noticed him all of a sudden was bestowing sexual favors upon him . He was suddenly important . Just because he had a gun .
Many ghetto youths today are pretty much the same . They have nothing . Then they get a car . It's a piece of junk but a car nevertheless . That's one step up . If they have a loud radio they will be noticed . When they have a gun to top all this off they " have arrived ." These are the things that garner respect in the ghetto . An education is not regarded as anything really good since it requires work . Not to mention commitment . These people will live worse than dogs but must have a car , loud sound system and , of course a gun . As long as these things are the measure of success these kids will live ( and die ) this way .
I'll tell you a cute story about a fisherman . He was catching lobster with bait on a string and a net . When he caught one he would look at it closely and put it in one of two buckets . One bucket had no lid at all . The other bucket had a lid with a cinder block on top to keep it shut . I asked about the difference between the buckets and he smiled . It seems that the bucket with the lid and brick was for educated middle class lobster . He worried about them getting out . The ghetto lobsters went into the bucket with no lid . They also could not get out . When one tried the others would pull them back in .
The ghetto feeds itself from within . If any try to get out they are considered traitors to their own kind . These people are like water . It freely flows in a downward direction and is most relaxed at the lowest point it can achieve .
The parents for the most part expect to be held harmless for the crap they raise . A really good arguement for the freedom to choose abortion . A doctor kills them or a cop must do it later . The shame is that so many have made it out it can be done . It's not impossible , just hard .
