I don't recall if I bought this set in a gun store there or elsewhere. 1973 or so. Grips of this style were common and popular there and in Hong Kong. There were streets which had stalls in front of the shops where the men made them. You could watch if you cared to.
I bought two sets, one gone now somewhere. Little bits of the inlay on this set have fallen out.
Mother of pearl inlay was popular then on hair brushes, revolver and pistol grips and other items. Dragons, flowers, seahorses, fish, deer, etc. were common patterns and the dove of peace. The grips are of a lightweight wood, the inlay set into the wood and lacquered. Note that the stocks properly cover the plunger tube, protecting and retaining it.
Actual mother of pearl grips for revolvers and 1911s are rare these days but used to be common. Hard material to work with and the dust is dangerous.
