what do you recommend for a replica?

Have you bought a new Pietta recently, say within the past 5 years?

I haven't, because of my past experience with Pietta. You saying that there are no more tool marks on the guns?

Yep. It's a Ginger or Mary Ann question. Personally I prefer Mary Ann.

Me, too! Yummy, yum yum! :D:rolleyes:

The Doc is out now.

Pietta installed new cnc equipment a few years back. Quality has increased a lot. I have a newer Pietta 1858 target model and a 51 Navy .44, both have very good fit and finish. My 94 Pietta made Paterson is excellent.
I have two 1860 Army's, one Belgium made Centennial three screw, and a Uberti four screw, both are nice. The Centennial is made from some very hard steel. I would like to find another.
Pretty hard to beat Cabela's price on the 1858, it going to end soon, you may want to check it out.

Centaure

Madcratebuilder,

I believe it was "Smokin Gun" who also said the steel in the Centaure is harder.

I picked one up in the purchase of a pair of pistols from one of the locals. 200.00 for an ASM Remy in essentially new condition plus this Centaure which is now with one of our compadres in Ohio for rehab. The Centaure is a pretty early serial number so it is a bit loose.

I am anxious to get it back but I don't dare rush the guy.

Cheers,

My Piettas are less than three years old. Reckon I need to post some pics of the flaws and external machine marks. Like I said, they're good guns but I believe Ubertis to be a little better on average.

my pietta 1860 army does have some fit issues with the grip but they are very minor. everything else is perfect and tight as can be..

Doc, I know what you mean about the waitin'. Be assured you get it back "Plus" when it is returned. Huntin' Season's over Weather's warmin' up...you'll get 'er back soon 'nuff ... He has mental and written notes on mine :O) SN767

Yup!

Smokin Gun,

I am a patient guy and I believe Wayne does work that is worth the wait. My confidence is very high.

Wayne does great work, you well be pleased.
I picked my Centaure up off GB a few months back. The bolt was over size and had peened the cylinder notches pretty badly. The Centaure steel is much harder than any Pietta or Uberti I have worked on.
My problem was my eye sight and working in the notches, finally got them squared up nicely. I was impressed on how well the cylinder took touch up cold blue. You could not tell it had been touched when I was done. I would say it came out a strong 97% when I was finished with it.
It's a three screw and cut for a shoulder stock and the shoulder stock I have is a Uberti four screw:(
Mine is #215X with 8" barrel. I feel the need for a second Centaure if I can find one.

Hello to fellow Centaure owners. Lets not let the secret get out too much about these great revolvers. I need another Cetaure too. See you on the FROCS forum.

Finish on the pistol

MCB,

Wayne and I have decided to wait on a decision about finishing the revolver until after he gets the action and fit right.

Mine still has good color on the back strap. Best finish I have ever seen on any C&B pistol new or used. But he had to work on the cylinder so the rebated section is in the white. I told him I thought I wanted the whole thing reblued.

I think he has other ideas, but for now he is keeping them to himself. I will trust almost anything he says.
