What do you keep for home defense?

1911 loaded with a 230gr corbon in the pipe and 7rds of Gold dot 200grs under it, a spare mag with 230gr XTP's and another with gold dots.

SKS and 5 30rd mags loaded to 20rds apiece.

We live in the sticks so for distant trouble I have a .308 and a .270 both ready and loaded in the gun cabinet.

I need to pick-up another shotgun, 870 or a Moss 500 to keep loaded number 6 in the tube and followed with buck and slugs, wife wants this one for dealing with snakes and other critters.

Have often kept my Mossberg 500 ready.

Currently, have Tac-7, 6P, EDMF 12 Tanto, and M1 Carbine with reload close by. FR8 also ready.

Now, if I were expecting trouble, I'd have about 130 rounds of preloaded "New York reloads". :D

Bedside I have a Taurus 85 3" .38 with five 000-buck multi-ball loads in the cylinder with five 125JHP+Ps in a speedloader, also a S&W 4006 with the first six rounds being Glaser and the remaining six Cor-Bon 135 JHP +Ps, with a full spare mag of 11 Cor-Bons.

If I need more than that, there is a 'hot' .30 carbine in the safe and three more 15-round mags, the Mini-14 is unloaded, but has three loaded 20-round mags of soft-point ammo, then there are the pump shotguns, loaded with five 3" 4-Buck but none in the chamber, then there is the .......

I think my signature line says it all for me at this point:

Right this moment.. nothing.. It's all locked up in the safe... :)

Being unarmed is as close to "living on the edge" as I get...

Normally I carry a 38 or 380 in the house..

In the safe are 2 Glock 19 pistols, each loaded w/ 15 Cor-Bon 124gr +p 9mm JHP.
Also in the safe are 2-30 round magazines of M855 5.56mm Ball for the M4 clone(AR15)standing beside the safe.
So, if a bad person gets through the steel "burgler bar" screen doors, through the solid wood doors, past the 2 furry roving burgler alarms-they are in for a nasty surprise.

On the night stand: Beretta 92 with 10 rounds of hydra-shocks + 1 in the chamber. I sometimes have an extra 15 round magazine loaded with ball ammo. Under the bed: Remington 870 youth model 20 gauge shotgun. This is kept unloaded, since it is within reach of the baby. There are 10 rounds of bird shot kept on the nightstand. Since reading a comment here at TFL about the usefulness of a knife when untangling a BG from a GG at very close range, I may move my Buck knife back to the night stand as well.

Stevens double barrel 12 ga., 22" barrels, loaded w/high base 6's & sling w/20 assorted other rounds(at most room distances[(25' or less]#6's be good 'nuf!); you must out-maneuver Chow & Rotties(3) before the above is needed...none have done so yet.CCW rig is always at hand as well(G-30 w/ evil black box 230 gr. Black Talons & 2 extra mags).

Well nightstand is still a Ruger 357 with Rem 125 mags. Backed up with a Win 1300 with 5 round of Fed Tactical OO buck and Five Rem slugs on the butt cuff [color coded Red is buck and Green is Slugs].

At my desk I keep my 4" S&W 629 loaded with either 44 special Win 200 silvertips or 44 special CCI-Speer Blazers 200 GDHP. With 3 speedloaders filled with more 44 specials and one speedloader filled with Federal 300 grain castcore bullet [which is really a LBT bullet].

I also have a P 11 in a fanny pack so I can strap that on to go check out a bump in the night or to have as a back up to a long gun.

Spectre listen up: I keep a Steyr Scout ready to go for out door use or as a loaner to qualified guest's that visit over night [I figure they will have their own handgun(s) with them but we all know which is prefered if SHTF]

Oh then there are the misc. Surefire, ASP, Boken, etc.

There can be only one!

1991 Comdr, M11 Remington w/#2s, 6Z and bad attitude when startled awake. Oh, yeah, and a eight year old fearless Sh!tzu on constant security alert. Oh, I'm bad!

Sensop,

Don't knock those little ****zu. They may be small, but they know Kung-Fu. ;)

A 9mm Taurus PT99 on one side of the bed, a .44 Charter Bulldog on the other, and a pump 12ga underneath. Pistols loaded with Glaser Safety Slugs, shotgun with #6 high velocity shells (lots of little pellets make a real mess up close).
;)Here's a tip : Attach a holster to a 12" X 24" piece of 3/8 plywood. Slide plywood between mattress and box springs, leaving the holster hanging against the side of the bed. This puts the gun under the covers with you but keeps it out of the way.....and you can get to it silently.

Mossberg 500 12ga by the bed, another mossberg 12ga in the closet by the front door, and a Beretta 96D on the nightstand.

I keep a Taurus .357, loaded and ready to grab when I'm home alone. When the boyfriend is here, he usually has his .45 on hand.

We are getting ready to move to a pretty raunchy neighborhood (near Blackwell, for all you Project Exile scholars). My best friend, who already lives there and is not a "gun person," keeps a .22 and a pit bull.

Many years ago, before I learned to shoot, I lived in an even worse neighborhood (again, for Richmonders -- near Mosby Court). We had a labrador and an akita. I could leave the door unlocked all night if I wanted and nobody would bother me. We called it "The Akita 5000 Security System."

Let's hear it for the pups!

USP 45F w/185 gr. +p Golden Sabres, AR 15 w/40 rd. mag., SAR8 w/20 rd. mag., Combat Cmmdr, P85, Assorted edged weapons & heavy objects.

A small but, very noisey dog. (he's the alarm system) A 6'4" 300lb 20 year old son and a wife any smart person would not make angry!
If they survive that, I'll shoot 'em and put 'em out of their misery. :D
