What do you keep for home defense?

What weapon or weapons and ammo do you keep for home defense? I keep my Kimber Target loaded with Federal Hydra-Shok ammo in the night stand along with spare mag (10 shot Ed Brown magazine loaded with same ammo). Hidden in the closet (not accessible to anyone under 5'5" tall) is my Remington 870 (18" barrel) loaded with 6 rounds of Federal Tactical #4 Buckshot along with 3 Federal Tactical 00 Buckshot and 3 Remington Reduced Recoil 1 oz Slug.

Glock 21 w/ spare magazine - 27 rounds of Hydra-Shok.

*&* 625-4 with one cylinder full of 230gr HydraShok, and my G29 full of 135gr CorBon for a New York Reload...

A Doberman and a Mini-14.

Guns cause crime like spoons cause Rosie O'Donnell to be fat!

I hunt, therefore I am.

There is no reason to fear; I keep my guns taken apart and in pieces with several levels of readiness: Condition Red means loaded and ready to fire, Condition Yellow means ready arms and ready magazines but not loaded but near, Condition Blue means arms taken apart but ready for action at a moments notice with magazines ready. Condition Green means all weapons taken apart and stored away greased up and all magazines emptied out. Condition Green is most of the time; I personally prefer the sword, knife, and most favorite 10 pound 4 foot sears and roebuck hammer for hometime defense.

Pistolas are okay for home defence, however, when I wake up from a dead sleep I KNOW I will hit my target with my 18" pistol grip H&R 3" 00 buckshot loaded shotgun and not hurt anything but drywall if I miss (noy likely even if I have had a few too many a few hours before). The resulttts will be as desired and you will save us taxpayers money if you make sure to dump 2 shells into the POS.

I keep my G26 with me under the pillow. 31 rounds of Golden Saber.
A Taurus M605 is under the cushion of the soffa in the living room. 5 rounds of PMC starfire.

1 Colt 1991A1 .45ACP and spare mag loaded full w/Federal PDA, and a Winchester '94 in .45 Colt loaded full with WW 225. gr Silvertips. 17 rds ACP, 9 rds Colt. If that won't take care of the problem, I probably need either a crew served weapon or a squad of riflemen (or air/arty support. :))

Me: S&W (yeecchh!) 4006, loaded with Black Talon/SWC in a staggered load (+ 2 mags), Mossberg Persuader loaded with #4 std.

Wife: Colt Gold Cup w/std 230 gr ball ammo.

Of course, we DO have 2 mini-14's w/4000 rds, "just in case" those JBT's drop by... Gas masks + extra filters too...

(00 buck is WAY too much load for home use. It WILL penetrate MUCH more that drywall. Besides, at "in-home" distances, you can only expect your pattern to spead an inch or two. That's why the pistols are much preferred by us.)

Don't mean to be too preachy, but if you keep a pistol grip shotgun for selfdefense, have you seriously trained with it?

It is not that easy a weapon to use.

As was just said, 00 can sail right through
some standard wood and crap construction.

Forgot to say this - shotguns are great if
you know all the BGs are in front and all
the GGs are in back.

If, God forbid, you have have to make a
precision shot - ex. BG grabs your kid,
that pistol grip and 00 aint looking so
hot. It is kind of fun to aim at those targets in class that have the BG holding the victim.

Try it with shotgun vs a handgun or rifle -
hmm!!

H&K USP .45C w/H&K UTL MKII loaded with 230gr Hydra-Shok, Mossberg 590 "cruiser safe" loaded w/5rnds 2 3/4" #4 buck, GI web belt w/a holster for the H&K, 2 full H&K mags in a dual carrier and 2 shotgun ammo pouches w/12rnds #4 buck, 24rnds 00 buck and 12 Brenneke(sp?) slugs, and a D-cell Maglight on a belt carrier.

Rem 870 with side saddle and speed feed stock. SKS carbine. Ruger P85 9mm loaded w/147 grain "controlled expansion point" subsonic ammo (City issue). Sig P220 with Remington Golden Saber.

As backup, I have on my mantlepiece a scale model 24 pounder naval gun which shoots 44 caliber lead balls and on the floor next to the fireplace is a scale model 12 pdr Napoleon (58 cal). Not really backups as neither are kept loaded.

I have a Glock 22 in a Galco Miami Classic with 2 spare magazines which can be donned at a moments notice, assuming I don't already have it on. I also have a Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri, which for those of you who don't know can also be used as an impact weapon by striking with the back side of the blade.

I keep a Punch-II M6 canister at home as well, this is an OC canaster that looks like a small fire extinguiser. It was originally designed for riot control in prisons, and it's pleny good for putting down brawling drunks.

Other items, a good flashlight and a cordless phone.

Taurus 617CH 357mag/7-shot with 2 inch barrel, three 7-shot speedloaders filled with Cor-Bon 110-grain JHP. Instantly ready and Bill Jordan would be proud.

In the event of a TCFFH, there is a high-capacity, magazine-fed,semi-automatic rifle with several politically incorrect feeding devices residing nearby but out of sight.

Mossberg 590A1 loaded with 8 rds of Federal Tactical 00 buck. Sure-fire forend light on the shotgun. Assorted Glocks on the nightstand 23, 27 or 34. Wife has Kimber Ultra Elite 45 on her side of the bed along with sure-fire 6z and cell phone. I don't have any kids or neighbors so I'd probably lay down some grazing fire in the event of a break-in. Later, byerly
