what do you do with your handgun hard cases?

I wish they would go back to card board boxes Then we can toss them. Like we used to do. Iam about ready to start that anyway . This keep all the cases all the paper work. Why? Because some collector wants it and now its expected. I buy a gun because I want the gun. Not for the stack of silly paper and plastic case.

Lol, I only have one hard case between the 3 guns I own. It is for my Glock 22 and it sits in my cabinet with my cleaning kit and targets. I do have a cardboard box for my Taurus PT111 and it sits in the same area. (Although right now it is in Miami:mad:)

I used to store my guns in their hard cases until my collection grew to the point that I ran out of room in my safe. I had some custom made gun racks for the guns and now my guns have all the room they need. It just so happens that I have a corner space in my office next to my desk. The space is just slightly wider that the gun boxes and my desk with the associated top cabinets is almost to the ceiling which is about 10' high. I have all the gun boxes on top of each other piled almost to the ceiling. Not only are they out of the way and out of sight from the rest of the home office, but it also is a great place to store the original paperwork that came with each particular gun. And with a little bit of luck, if I need a particular case, I can pull it out without the need to disassemble the entire pile of gun cases.

I have all of the cases/boxes for every gun that I've ever bought that came with one. They're stored in large cardboard boxes in my dehumidified basement. The guns themselves are stored in the safe in soft pistol rugs, lined up next to or stacked on top of one another.

whether good or bad

I saved all of mine and eventually just took off the sticker labels and threw all of them out @ the same time at the dump. ran out of room I did, and I had to make room. I also didn't want my kid and/or his or her buddies to find them someday. ...I know pretty useless reasons but oh well

Pistol cases

I store the weapons themselves in GunSocks -- not sure if that is the brandname - but they are soft fabric pistol shaped bags impregnated with silicon.

The pllastic guncases are piled up in the closet. Putting them under the bed is probably a better idea.
If I had a garage thats where they'd go.
But I agree that having the original case, if sellling the gun, may make it a little easier and might add a few bucks to the price.
.

I have a fetish for "evenness"

I pile the cases on top of each other so I have a pile. Now to balance out the pile you must add cases to the short side.

The expensive part is the guns that are in the cases that you must empty to build the second pile. . .;)

Geetarman:D

I usually throw the cases out ...unless I know someone that wants them ...

I built a series of 8 shelves along one side of my safe ....and I use the handgun racks that you can buy from Cabelas .. in a vinyl coated steel. My safe is deep enough - to allow two of the 4gun racks on one shelf ...so 8 guns to a shelf ( so I have room to store 64 handguns on the racks on the shelves).

The shelves are made from hardwood / then I put some non-skid matting on the wood. I rest the guns in the racks right side up / not upside down like the Cabelas catalog shows the racks being used.

You want to make some shelves deeper - to allow for revolvers with 8 3/8" barrels as an example ...and some smaller for some of the smaller guns ( like a Sig 239 ) ...

But that's the system I use ....it keeps the guns handy ...and there is no metal to metal contact between the guns.

stacking boxes just takes up too much room .../ and it seems like no matter what you want ...it takes a while to find it ( if you have 6 or 8 1911's / or a few Sigs or whatever --- they may all come in the same kinds of boxes )...

All gun boxes and sometimes cases get taped up in non-biodegradable garbage bags, and stored in my attic.

I was looking at a 30-year-old S&W Model 41 the other day and almost bought it. I don't really care about the price because it's a nice gun, but it's in the danged box. I'm tripping over enough boxes already. I know, what's one more.

Mine are stacked up in a plastic bin on top of one of my gun safes. The guns are kept in gun socks in the safe.
