what do you buy rifles for?

I don't hunt. I don't compete. I don't collect. I don't like to look at them. I don't like to argue about them. And I don't like the thought of giving them up.

I like to shoot them. And I like to keep and bear them.

Did I say I like to fight?

Because I can hit what I aim at, with a rifle ... rabbits tremble at the sound of my name. Shotguns seem like cheating, and sidearms? Don't ask ... ;)

Q-Man,

ROTFLMAO = "Because a bayonet looks silly attached to a pistol".

AR-15 for HD, target, and plinking (different uppers).

10/22 & 39A for target and plinking.

Enfield MKII No.4 for the history and pure fun of it.

700 BDL 7MM REM MAG for hunting.

All for the pride and joy of ownership and because I have the right.

After reading the clever quaotes above, I am almost embarrassed to say: to fill my freezer, feed my family and go hunting!

To fulfill my duties as a member of society by being able to assist in the defense of my family, friends, home and community.

(Also, they're fun to shoot, the old surplus ones are cool chunks of living history, and if and when someone invites me to go hunting I won't have to ask to borrow a rifle!):)

Oh-oh, I didn't know I needed a reason!

Been buying and restoring older and C&R stuff lately. Not everyones cup of tea I'm sure, but I like a project - and their age, beauty, craftmanship, history and design appeal to me.

And they shoot remarkably well too.

I buy them because I can.

I buy them because they are finely crafted precision instruments much in the same fashion as a beautiful anniversary clock or an antique musical instrument. The contrast of wood and steel suggest a commoness between man-made ventures and nature.

I buy them to make small holes inside of smaller circles at ranges further away than an arrow can reach.

I buy them to take them apart and put them back together again.

I buy them because they link me back to days in the woods with my grandfather, my uncles, my dad, and my cousins.

I buy them because in a fashion they make me feel self-sufficient and independent.

I buy them because I love them.

First one was because of Peer pressure and to fullfil a desire I have had since i was about 10 to own an CAR-15, ok so I got an AR-15, but thats close enough. The second AR-15 was because I could, the third AR was for the challenge and satisfaction of building my own AR-15
The 10/22 was to that I could go the the range and shoot all day for under $15.
And when I get around to getting my bolt action rifle, it will because I have the money laying around

I own rifles to protect myself, my family , my neighbors and my country. I love to shoot and started very young. I never was in the service and had little interest in hunting.. but love the feeling of controlling placement of rounds out to distant places. I have not mastered any rifle but feel very able to operate them safely and quickly. Every time I pick up an old garand or 1911 or an AK from the 60's I feel my place in history. I owe the people that fought for my freedom the courtesy of being able and willing to defend it. The means to do that is my rifle.

I buy rifles because I like to shoot them.

There are few things as fun as watching a golf ball go flying through the air following a 100 yd hit with a .22 . Not that I've had that experience too many times, but it sure is fun.

On second thought, there is a certain fun to watching a sun warmed coke react to a 405gr jhp out of a Guide Gun....

Oops, I forgot one. Few things taste better than roast beast, and Virginia won't let us farm Whitetail. Thus a nice roast haunch for Thanksgiving can cost either $175 from some farmer in PA, or $20 for a license and a box of surplus 7.62.

One more: It would really suck to need one and not have it.
