What do LEOs load their snubs with?

I would highly advise anyone selecting super high velocity +P's run the rounds through their revolvers and a chronograph.

I found they ain't as fast as advertised.

I prefer a standard pressure JHP for quicker follow up shots but the PDX are not as bad as other +p's.

I've noticed the same. Most +P has a lot to flash and muzzle flip, but the PDX1 seems to be a bit better behaved, so it's what I carry in my .38spl revolvers.

I don't worry too much about the HP clogging with denim- this isn't the 80s, denim jackets aren't too popular anymore. :p Expansion of most anything is going to be marginal out of a snub- sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. But since I find the PDX1 to be not only easier to shoot but also readily available, that what I use.

I carry hornady CD in my .357, but I've never shot anybody with it. I doubt that being shot in the same spot with 2 different 38s would make much of a difference as long as they were premium SD rounds.

I want my snubnose to shoot at point of aim. The sights are set up for 158 grain bullets. That is what I use. Usually swchp.

I am retired now, as Police Chief on Day Shift I would carry a 638 as my primary belt gun loaded with Remington Golder saber 125's. Today I would probably go with 135 Speer Short Barrel.

I am now concelaed carrying an LCR 357 loaded with 135 Short Barrel 357 Magnum loads.

I'm not LEO, but I do have two snubs that get carried pretty regularly. In my S&W M36, I load Remington 158gr LSWCHP +P. When I first bought the gun, I loaded it with Speer 135gr Short Barrel Gold Dots and they were fine with the exception that they shot rather low. My revolver's sights seem to be regulated for 158gr bullets and the Remington version has the best reputation amongst the "FBI Loads".

My other snub is a S&W M66 with a 2 1/2" barrel. It gets loaded with Remington .357 Magnum 158gr SJHP. I chose this loading because I rather like the expansion characteristics of the scalloped jacket on Remington's SJHP bullet and because the 158gr weight is more gentle on the forcing cone of a S&W K-Frame.

While I no longer own them, I've also previously carried a Colt Cobra and Taurus 445 in .38 Special and .44 Special respectively. In the Colt, I used Hornady 110gr Critical Defense as that was the only expanding standard pressure .38 Special loading I could get which displayed both reliable expansion and decent penetration. I carried a few different loading in the Taurus but if I had it still I'd probably be carrying Blazer 200gr Gold Dots. I would choose these because they seem to have the most reliable expansion from a short barrel and because they're less expensive than the brass-cased Speer version.

When off duty I usually (now) carry a 3" S&W 65 loaded with 125 gr. SJHP 38 Spec+P. My wife has my 2 1/2" S&W 66 loaded with the same ammo. I started carrying a gun more than 30 years ago as an armed security officer and all we were allowed to carry at the time was revolvers. Now as a Police officer I carry a Beretta pistol OTJ but off duty we are allowed personal choice.
