What caliber should/would u get next...?

35 Whelen, 9.3x62 Mauser, or 405 winchester, any one of those punch above their weight class, may be tough to find commercial ammo, :(
but I've been reloading for the last 25 years or so, I don't worry about store ammo shelves, how's that for obscure rounds. :D

You and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You have lots of longer range stuff and no short range big bore. I think a 45-70 would be great in your collection. Id go for a lever just because its a repeater.

The 45-70 is very versatile. I have shot everything from 45 Caliber rounds balls that weigh about 150 grains (best guess) to some huge cast lead bullets in the 540 grain weight to shotshells. You can load up shot to take starlings off of the fence to 405 grain buffalo killers.

Most factory ammo is very mild. It is designed for the trap doors. With Hand loads you can get ammo that is very potent. I have hunted everything from squirrels to Elk to ring neck doves (invasive species) with my 45-70 and have plenty of meat left to eat.

Something that many hunters find hard to believe is that the 45-70 does not ruin that much meet. Speed plays a huge role in the destruction of meat from hydrostatic shock.

I have a very strong desire to own a modern rifle shooting the modern version of the high power military round: the 338 Lapua. Everything I read about it just makes it seem like the most exciting round this side of the 50 cal.
But since I have no long-distance ranges near me and the cost of a quality gun and the round, even if reloading, is way high (well the new Savage 110BA isn't too bad) I'd be happy to live vicariously through our OP and let him buy it. He can then regale us all with great stories about it.

For me its a .380. I have never had one, have a bunch of .380 ammo (got for free) and thought the new Glock 40 looked interesting. So placed my order and waiting.
