What caliber for....

Human pee

I assure you that if you pee around the perimeter of the garden they won't like that area much... I prefer to walk and pee thus putting a continuous barrier.
Hell it dose work for people! When I spent time in the army, the on going joke was when you got drunk enough you could pee a lake. And we watered many of pricks car door handles! :D If your in a place you really cant do it with out getting cought, hell grab a bucket or something ;)
Or I agree tag him with a bbgun or sling shot. I live in maine and we have these type of problems. Zap them or tag them, if they don't learn get a outside cat ;)

check your local laws first, here it's illegal to kill a fox.

second, a .22 pellet will kill a fox with NO problem. sight it in and head shoot the critter. i watched a t.v. show a while back where the host was hog hunting with a .22 caliber air rifle. he killed a 130 pound wild hog with 1 shot to the head. i don't know why some people think animals are so hard to kill, their not armor plated.

I guess I am different, because I enjoy having the critters around my house, and only shoot and kill an animal to feed my family. Foxes, rabbits, squirrel and birds, I just enjoy watching nature. If he's doing somehting other than urinating on veggies, like tearing up property or hasseling the dogs, then maybe I might put a .22 bug in his ear. Other than that, I'd just leave em be...

DON'T SHOOT THE FOX. Did he look like this one?

This fox was running straight at our porch. He then veered down the golf course, and, looked like he was eating grass, or something dead on the golf course. I took this shot at 140 yards. I tried to get into a better position with the camera, and brace on a tree. He saw me, squatted down, jumped BACKWARDS about 10 feet in the air, into the bushes, and was gone in a flash.

I said all that to point out your chances of shooting him are not much, and, he does keep the foragers down. Wonder if he's got to any of the local turkeys? Kind of doubt it. They are usually around day time..

Have any of you actually SMELLED fox P? I have a bottle of it I bought years ago for my traps and it's almost as bad as Pepi Lepew! I'd wash those lemon cucumbers with Formula 409 before I ate them! WAGH!

Anything less than a .460 SW for fox is a big mistake. They will tear you limb-from-limb if you wound them :p

Foxes I have seen look like a pellet gun would be over-kill. Maybe I only see the skinny ones.

I agree w/ the others. Don't kill her. She's just marking her territory. Go out and mark it as your's.

But if you decide to kill some other pests quietly, use a .22 rifle w/ sub sonic, CB cap rounds. Aguila, cci, remington make some good ones.
I've used them in lever actions and my 10-22's. They make less sound than a pellet gun. The 10-22's action made more noise than the actual round going off did.

Get some and test it out for your self. Pistols will be as loud as a regular .22

Even 22 subsonic hollow points will do for dispatching foxes at close (25-30 yards) distance. I'd go with head shots at this distance. Beware of some of the subsonic target loads, as a few that I've tried even bounce off rabbits.

Killing the fox just leads to more field mice and rabbits around, which can be hard on garden truck.

A good loud yell is as good as anything to persuade Mr. Fox to hang out at a distance instead of up close and personal...

Just tag him a few times with a BB gun. It will hurt and will chase him off for good. If he returns, then he has been warned and a little more serious persuasion will be warrented.

If the fox squatted to pee, it was a female. Most likely it has a den of young nearby. Killing the female will starve a group of young.

If she dug and then peed, then she peed in the ground and not on the plants???? So, she just fertilized the garden. The roots pull up the nitrogen the same as from any other source.

Also, as before mentioned, that fox smell there will keep the rabbits and other animals away, and the fox will catch and take to her den many many mice.

I am thinking this is a humorous post to stir up discussion, but if it were me, I'd leave the little fox alone and wait until winter, then I'd trap her. She has no value dead now, but has lots of value raising a litter of youngins that will sell for $100 each on the fur market..................

As I stated in my original post, I enjoy having the fox around as I do most of the other local fauna. I did not post merely to humor others and was rather serious about eliminating the little bugger because I take my lemon cucumbers seriously.:D However, I think I posted in the heat of the moment and I haven’t actually killed anything bigger than squirrel in all of my 50 years. I also suspect that if I did kill it, you’d see a post from Mrs. Grymster titled “What caliber for a stupid old fat guy?”

Meanwhile, my foxy friend was back last night, but thankfully refrained from peeing on my cukes.:)

Urine is generally sterile. He peed on the ground, not on your precious cucumbers. And in doing so, he left behind scent that will scare off rodents (the rodents that he doesn't eat).

You could be encouraging the fox to hang around, not kill him.
