what are some fun things to shoot at

Most bowling lanes will give you a box (10) of old pins if you ask for them or at least charge very little for them. They can take lots of punishment too. AOL disk go good too! :D Beenie Babys and stuffed animals. Oh and my neighbors chicken killin dog!

really cheap soda especially if its warm and shaken

bricks (they explode when hit with 7.62x39)

those styrofoam heads that stores display wigs on (can be patched up with caulk etc)

exploding targets of course

sheet metal computer covers. I put two against each other, shot them, and put them back on. It really looks like I shot my computer. LOL!

Potatos make excellent reactive targets for .22 hollow points. They will explode when hit. They are also cheap and biodegradable.

I second the cheap soda!

Go buy a flat or two of the rally cheap soda from your local market. That stuff is great to shoot at all sorts of distances. I also find ground squirrels to be a worthy foe as well as coyotes. Try shooting a ground squirrel at 400 yards! Not very easy.

I save my AOL disks for microwaving (it makes a really cool sparking sight!) or for palying fetch with my dog. I might try shooting one sooner or later but I think I might have already done that now that you mention it and I don't remember it being that exciting.

El Rojo,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to start saving up those annoying AOL disks and then shoot them up. I think AOL should enjoy getting them mailed back along with a certificate for each disk explaining the cause of death... "AOL Version 8.0 deceased, shot with .308 caliber, expired instantaneously."

Have any of you guys tried the exploding targets that are sold by a company out of SC? They are lots of fun enspecially if using a .22lr and put at a distance that makes it a challenge. There is a company that sells fireworks making supplies- Skylighter. I believe that it would be easy to produce these targets as they are little more than a piece of styrofoam with the appropriate mixture held in by cardboard.

Whew!

Thanks George. I've been holding my breath, knowing that my post was pushing the limits somewhat. I've halfway expected to get ostracizied (well, maybe even cyber-CASTRATED) for it before someone else joined me. Glad I will have company when the axe falls. I don't wanna die alone!

:D

Yeah, but it's really wasted effort. Democrats still vote, no matter how many times you kill'em (or how many stakes you drive through their hearts!!!)

I still love shooting at those little green army men (usually with a .22).
I have a special stash of the little guys holding PPsH's. I refuse to shoot at the ones with M-16's. :)

hard candy suckers...reactive, small enough to be challenging, colorful, cheap and the ants do the cleanup

oranges and grapefruits...lots of free sources for these here in florida, seasonal though

cars and trucks...abandoned ones are usually best, being large targets they are relatively easy to hit even for me

Look for the auto reset target.
This is absolutely the funnest nonliving target I have ever shot at.

Be Careful

My uncle tells of shooting pop cans full of gasoline with the 22-250 or other high-stepper with a varmint bullet. Place an ignition source 10 feet behind at about 1:30 rel. to bullet path. Candles blow out, use shotgun shell full of kerosene or what-have-you. Nice WHOMP fuel-air explosive effect. Don't light yourself on fire.

Bowling balls are a real hoot!!! place em out a couple hundred yards or more and blast away until they turn into dust and blow away
p.s. i have seen this done with a 50BMG that was one of the coolest things i have ever seen the thing exploded like a melon.

I'm pretty sure dirt doesn't count.

That self reset target looks cool. As I remember, you shoot the four lower metal targets away, and then shoot the top one to reset them into position. I have a metal double-spinner that's also fun. Repaint them with flourescent spray instead of using stick-ons.

Regards.

Grew up shooting pop cans, 22 shell boxes, animal crackers etc.. moved onto clays, bowling pins, IDPA tarhets, spinners, poppers and various edible woodland creatures.

"reactive" targets are the best. This is a place where apples and oranges really are equals.. to a 165 gr sierra spitzer boat tail at 2800fps...

Have fun.

targets

Gnats @ss, match tip, mosquito wings, and anything smaller!!!LOL!!!!!!
Seriously though, I like to use a magic marker and draw targets on things that are already trash or thing found in the woods like branches, logs, or critters.
