What are my chances of getting a sub moa .223 Remington 700?

I have a Savage Axis .223(with a Rifle Basix trigger) that shoots less than 1 moa but...

I want a .223 bolt gun with the option of putting in a really good 2 stage trigger that's adjustable to ounces.

The only gun I can find that meets the criteria is a Remington 700.

(I have looked at Weatherby and Howa the both have 2 stage triggers but NO aftermarket 2 stage triggers if you don't like the factory triggers.)

I am also concerned that the Remington 700 has 1:12 twist. I like 1:9.

Opinions, comments, suggestions?

Most factory Remington 700s I shoot these days are sub-MOA. The Remington 700 VTR, SPS Varmint, SPS Threaded Barrel, all have the 1:9" twist you are looking for.

A 1:12 barrel can certainly get you sub-MOA, if a good barrel, of course. However, only with LIGHT bullets. A 12 twist is really only able to stabilize bullets up to around 55 grains. They are also better suited to shorter distances, rather than medium to long ones (by that I mean 200 yards or less). because of the bullet weight limitations. That is, if you want real accuracy.

So, if any of the above issues matter to you, the 700 might not be the right choice.** As for myself, nothing slower than a 9 twist is acceptable, because I am not willing to accept those limitations.

Of course, you could always get the 700, then re-barrel it for a better twist rate. **

**Well nevermind. I just caught the fact (from a couple of posts before mine, that the 700 IS available with a 1:9 barrel. So, there you go.

"...adjustable to ounces..." For what purpose? A trigger measured that light has very limited uses. So does the Timney available for Axis rifles.

i see the local dicks has some hb camo 700s. i am looking for a 223. they are the adl line, they were 579.00

For how many shots per group and how far away?

I assume you mean 100 yards.

3? There's hardly a modern (newly made) bolt action rifle that won't do it with almost any off the shelf ammo. They exist that won't, yes, but they are a distinct minority. Your gun might not "like" one brand but it'll almost certainly like another and easily keep them under 1" at 100.

5? Probably not much different than 3.

10? With good handloads, your odds are excellent.

30? The smallest group size that's really statistically significant. Good luck.

I have a SPS VS that shot 3/4" groups at 100 yards when new. That's with a bad stock and a horrible trigger.

I'm a 700 fan, they're good rifles. Replace the stock and trigger and they will amaze you.

I'm probably in the minority on this... But if you get 10 shots into an inch I'd say it's an moa rifle and if the 11th is wide, I'd be checking myself, the wind and the load in that order.
