What 243 bullet for coyotes???

Thanks Hunter

I went ahead and ordered some 100 gr speer bullets since they could be used for deer if I decide to take this rifle deer hunting. I already use IMR 4831 for my .270 loads so that is on hand.

I just ordered a Lee Deluxe set of dies since it included both neck sizing and full length sizing dies.

I'm sure the 100 grainers will anchor a yote (providing the nut behind the trigger does his job).:D

.... oh, the good ol' days, when a dead winter coyote brought $50+, and gas was 79 cents a gallon...... ..... I got my first deer rifle (a lightly used Rem 788 in .243 in 1983) for less money than my uncle got for a light colored coyote
....
I feel like an old fart....I remember gas at 19 to 24 cents.

There's a gas station here, that has been vacant for many years. It is perpetually advertising "Going Out of Business - Drain Our Tanks - Unleaded 54¢ - Regular 49¢". I feel old, when I remember the days when it was still open. Yet, most of my family can barely remember gas at 99¢ a gallon, and only myself, my older brothers, and parents can remember still getting leaded gasoline.

They should do just fine.

If I wanted to save pelts, I would probably use an 87 gr SP or 95 gr SST... just because they're also my hunting loads, and I have plenty on hand. If I wasn't saving pelts, the 75 gr HP would come out. ;)

lite and fast

I started shooting the 243 in a Rem. 600 in 1965. Ten years later I replaced it with a Rem 700 varminter. There wasn't the wide selection of bullets then, no plastic tips of any kind. I pretty much stayed with Sierra's in 60 gr. H.P. flat base and 70 gr. HPBT match. Both were fast, 37-3800fps, flat shooting and accurate.

Groups were less than 1/2 inch at 100 and at times 5/8" at 200. It didn't take long to figure out that under all that hair ole Wiley wasn't very big. We did most of our shooting at around 6000 foot altitude on flat snow covered ground. Range estimation was difficult at best. That had a lot to do with our choice of bullets.

If I were to start over now I would for sure try the Ballistic tips, and v-max bullets. I’ve had good luck with them in both 222 and 22-250. I would still stay on the lite, fast side
