Wha tis the highest velocity ammo?

My only Swift load was with the Sierra 52-grain HPBT. Per the Sierra book, around 3,900. Did Really. Bad. Things. to feral cats at 300 and 400 yards. :)

For the .223 the fastest commercial ammo that I could find was the Hornady NTX 35 grain, it is advertised at 4000 fps. For the .308 the fastest commercial ammo that I could find for it was the RBCD Ammunition Ballistics TFSP 112 grain bullet at 3650 fps.

I'm shooting a Lazzeroni Warburd. 150gr. 30 cal bullet at 3707 out of the muzzle out of my hunting rifle. Love that round!

For a .22-250, the Nosler manual says that their 35 grain Ballistic Tip max velocity with TAC powder load has a 4545 fps muzzle velocity. QuickLoad says the max load of TAC will make 4413 fps with that bullet.

I've shot the 40 grain BT at 4050 fps with Reloader 15 in my Rem 700 .22-250 with a 26 inch barrel but the Nosler manual claims that a TAC max load will achieve 4325 with the 40 grain BT.

Even at 4050 fps, the little bullet is hauling down the range but I never saw a puff of smoke. That little bullet seems to be most accurate at 3950 fps in my Remington 700 with a 1:14 twist so once I saw the accuracy drop off at 4050, I didn't bother to push it any faster.

Highest Rifle Velocity
5278 fps in .22-243 Middl.
5130 fps in .22-250 Ack Im
Most Powerfull Rifle
14412 ft-lbs in .700 NE
13109 ft-lbs in .50 BMG

This is the fastest I got:

With the 223 and 35 gr Vmax and Blue Dot I have killed thousands of Rodents at 3500 fps.

Add 3 more grains and some will clock at 4200 fps with high pressure signs and some at 4100 fps with no pressure sign. Blue Dot is erratic at high pressure.

This is the slowest:
With 1 grain 388 fps I have killed coons with body shots.

45/70 with metal filler in case but a flash hole drilled, 145 gr button cast bullet, 0.6 gr Bullseye 287 fps

Seems like everything I would have said has already been posted...but I think Ill post any way ;).

220 Swift was the boss back in the day for speed. When 22-250 came around it kinda took its place and 220 swift, sadly, is on its way out. All around same bullet but the swift got a bad rep. Last time I went prairie dog hunting I had a buddy bring a 204. From what I understood it is moving fast but its such a small round wind is a big factor. We were tagging dogs 200-600 yards out and it seemed he was having more trouble than we were. I took a few shots with it, wind seemed to moving me around a lot more vs my 220 swift. 223/5.56 is a quick bullet but its just not able to compete with 22-250 or 204.

50 cal, your looking at more pain than speed :p

I am a big .22-250 fan, but as much as I wish I could call it the king, it gets whooped by the .223 WSSM in the velocity department by over 100 fps.

I wouldn't believe everything that's listed on a box for velocity.. more than one ammo maker tends to exaggerate their velocity numbers from what I've seen. The .204 is great, but definitely not outrunning a .22-250 unless you have an extremely light bullet. 32-40 grain .204 loads, while fast, aren't going to outrun a 250 that's loaded with a 35-40 grain bullet.
