West Virginia proposes no-permit concealed carry bill

Funny you should mention that part of WV, as I am originally from Mingo county. And yes it is foolish to assume that people there arent carrying. Or assume you wont get a few holes put in you if you go opening the wrong doors at night. To my knowledge, as far as Mingo Co. goes, there is only 1-2 sheriffs dept. officers assigned to the whole county at any one time. So they arent having to deal with problems there anyways, its more or less fend for yourself. Good luck calling them to come when you need them or heaven forbid you actually have cell service.

People just can't understand unless they have been there. I ride through Southern WV frequently in the summer on my motorcycle. I'm thankful that my friend trailing is a former Special Forces soldier that always carries. There is a certain town we go through that only has one police officer (since the other one was killed). The town had one red light. The one remaining officer took time off to sleep from 11PM-7AM. They removed their only red light because strangers riding through town stopped at the red light late at night and kept getting robbed.

UPDATE: It passed the House 71-29. It will go back to senate for them to vote on one change to raise the age from 18-21. They are expected to pass it.

Dead

The bill was killed today by Veto....could have been overridden, but the WV Legislature session has concluded for the year.

Yup dead.

Governor Tomblin vetoed the bill saying that the Law Enforcement Community across the State overwhelming opposed it and convinced him to veto.

Update
March 2016
The bill is revived ,again passes the House and Senate survives a barrage of anti-gun amendments, is again vetoed.

This time however the veto is over ridden easily with 9 days left in the session.

Constitutional carry becomes law in WV 6/5/16

Maybe the citizens will veto the governor in his next re-election.
