"We're comin' to America"

With apologies to Neil Diamond ... :)

I was going to keep quiet about this until later in the year, but I'm too damn excited! Thanks to Frequent Flyer points and a nice company I work for (if you're reading this, Boss), it is 95% certain Di and I are coming to the US of A for a holiday in late February/early March 2001.

We'll be staying with my S-I-L and B-I-L in Salem, Oregon.

If there are any "old" TFLers within striking distance of there, the beer's on me! Then you can show me the guns you own that I can never own :(

I'll post this again nearer the end of the year -- but I was just so ... well, maybe some of you know how I feel. Especially considering that, on a personal note, this has been a b-a-d year financially for us -- and it's still not clear that we'll keep our house. So this "paid" trip will be something we couldn't even begin to contemplate normally. I won't have much "folding green", but enough for a few beers :D

I'd really like to meet some of my friends.

Cheers from a (just a little bit) excited Bruce.

WoooHooooo! The Aussie is Coming to America! :D Thanks for sharing your great news, Bruce! I'm glad you have something to look forward to...especially since this has been such a rough year for you.

Hmmmmmm...Salem isn't b]that[/b] far away from here!!! ;)

Cool! Although I’m nowhere close to Oregon (sorry to miss you) I hope you have a great time. Maybe we can pass the word and get a shoot going in the area. Come on, all you good people in the north west show a good member a good time.

Salem is about a five hour drive for me... ummmm.... keep me posted. Don't have any of the good stuff you'd like to see, but hey the beer does sound good. Bruce, if you would like to tour the wine country, I'll extend and offer right now to do so as my guest. I'm the chief grape counter for a winery. As such when I visit another winery, I can get the grand tour, behind the scenes and usually by the owner or the winemaker. Also the wine tasting is usually free. Another agreement between wineries is that we can exchange wine... Which means I can take along with me some of our wine (purchased at cost) and trade it for one of theirs.

Thanks,

I have always felt that the only stupid question is one unasked, so..... :D

Richard, just what does the Chief Grape Counter at a winery do? Is it similar to the bean and bullet counters in the Army? Whatever it is, the perks sound great!

Thanx.

Bruce,
I hope you enjoy your visit to the US as much as I enjoyed my R&R to Australia. :)

Welcome aboard mate. Just stay out of Kalifornicate and you'll be all right. We'll put a couple of shrimp on the barbie for you but they keep falling through the grating into the fire. How do you aussies do that?
Same with the baked beans they don't set well on the grating either. :D

Congrats Bruce! :) If you have connecting flights and happen to stop at O'hare in Chicago, let me know, I am about 7 minutes from the airport. Oregon is not close to me at all, but I do hope you and the wife have a great trip. We will expect a review of your trip ;).

Bruce, congratulations ... have a great time up there. And, bring your raincoat. ;)

Salem is nearly a 24 hour drive from Phoenix, so it's a bit out of the neighborhood. But, you will have a great time up there. Wave to us on your way by.

Regards from AZ

Bruce, Glad to hear you and the Mrs. are comming to visit :) Like to down a few with you, but since you will be on the west coast and I'm on the east, Have one for me :)
Have a great trip when you make it :)

Bruce, that sounds great! :) :) :)
It's nice to get something like that when you have a b-a-d year (esp. if it's with a capital "B"!) Oregon's a little far crom Colorado, but I hope you and your wife have fun. Take lots of pictures! :)

But Bruce, you can own those guns. As an alien legally in the U.S. you are protected by and have all rights of the U.S. Constitution. You can buy guns while you are here if you are going to be here long enough.

Bruce - Why don't you guys just stay here? Get a visa and enjoy the little liberty we have left. We will also need good men for what is on the horizon.

Congrats Bruce... The Lone Star State is just about as far from Oregon as our other discussion. But heck... tell ya what... When I get down to Carins and Sydney, I'll lift a Crown Lauger in your direction. When you get to Oregon... you tip a cerveza towards Texas. Friends don't HAVE to be in the same location to enjoy one another's company. :)

Bruce, forget the house and Australia. Let the bank have it. It costs next to nothing to live in certain parts of the U.S. I pay about $450 American a month including utilities, etc--just don't come here. Make it Texas. ;)

I'll be about 6 hours from Salem by then. Keep us posted, and the beer's on us Americans seeing as how you're the guest (you may be a little dissapointed with standard American Brew, but you'll be in Oregon which is practically the micro-brew capital of the world so you should be able to find something to your liking).

And if you, uh, wanted to just stick around for longer than the official visit, I'm sure nobody here on TFL would say anything. We've got 3 million illegals a year coming to this country, what's one more Aussie?

Wish I could run up for a visit... but when you just start a new job asking for time off is considered a NO NO.
If you can come down to Utah - I'll take you to a little place that will let you have some range time with an MP5. :D

Have fun!
