Well, it's ruined. Suggestions?

Hard chrome is beautiful and durable. It is also a "matte" look so it has less glare and tends to mask minor imperfections in the surface. I've got a hard-chrome HI-Power and it is really beautiful. Doesn't finger print like my nickel-plated guns (which are also beautiful).
 
Ask your friend if he has homeowners insurance. Some policies cover damage to items which are borrowed by the insured for their personal use. Mine covers up to $500.00. Also, the NRA Armscare insurance might apply to this loss, if you are a member. Read the outline of coverage.
