Well, here she is. My first 1911...I don't know if I will be going back to polymer

Give the guy a break! He's only fired a few rounds through it and it is highly likely that it just needs to be broken in. I doubt the judgment of anyone who will dismiss a semiauto pistol on the basis of shooting less than 300 rounds or so. If it still chokes after 300-400 rounds, it's a problem.

Tough crowd on this forum! Nice looking pistola... Shoot often and safely.

I have polymers, I have alloys, I have steel framed, I have guns that have failed, guns that used to fail and now don't, and guns that have never failed.

Viva la differance! And that's what makes this hobby/passion of ours interesting!

Totally normal for a brand new gun to have hiccups in its first 500 rounds. That's not an anomaly unknown to even the "Perfection"ists.

One thing I can recommend is to go pick yourself up some new magazines. Either Wilson Combat or CMC Power Mags (NOT shooting stars). Good magazines can make all the difference in a 1911. If you ever experience problems after your pistol is good and broken in the first thing I would do is buy a new magazine and see if the problem persists. My Colt was having issues with failing to fully chamber a new round. I replaced my worn out old magazines and the problem went away.

Welcome to the world of the 1911, now you need a 5" Govt model... Enjoy the sickness! :D

Long live the 1911A1!

I DO own other pistols and revolvers, some for no real reason, but if I could only own one, it'd be a 1911A1 in some form or the other. The beauty of the .45 ACP is, if one of them shoots reliably only with FMJRN ammo, there's no REAL sacrifice of stopping power. Even the light 185 FMJWC target ammo works well, if pressed into use for ventilating things more animate than paper.

If an out-of-the-box 1911A1 won't feed JHPs, just run a case of FMJ or LRN ammo through it, THEN try the JHPs, again. Odds are, they'll feed much better. And if they don't, and you're condemned forever to shooting FMJ only through it, you haven't lost anything.

Enjoy the heck out of your new pistol sir! Hope you have many happy targets trying to wear it out.
So far as the bobble goes, it might be the weapon, ammo. mag or it just caught you off guard if you aren't used to the 1911 platform.
Don't let the other guys ding ya. I have 2 1911 platforms and one has about 20K through it without a bobble and the newest about 3K and it works just fine too.
Just keep it lubed and clean between outings and it will be something you can pass down to your kids.
Mine shoot fine with JHPs, FMJs or LSWCs in whatever power level I feel like loading them to.

Nice 1911 there, OP. I don't happen to own any SAs myself, but by all accounts including yours they are good shooters and represent a good value.

Yes, a good 1911 is a wonderful handgun. I started with one and now own seven. Yes, I know .... but my kids will inherit them and enjoy them, as will my grandkids.

Very nice 1911 there ...

Great looking and a fine shooting pistol. The longer you have it, the more you will appreciate it. You made a great choice.

In terms of bullet diameter after passing through an assailant, no. But hollow points, IMO, aren't just designed to expand but also to NOT overpenetrate. You don't get that with FMJs.

For most 1911s it's a matter of finding a JHP your particular gun likes. So far my Colt likes Golden Saber 230gr, PDX1 230gr, and 185gr Zmax. Haven't tried anything else for comparison but I have two proven and reliable loads in the PDX1 and the Golden Saber.

And again, if your particular 1911 doesn't seem to function with ANY JHP load, it may be your magazines. The angle of the bullet as it leaves the magazine and rides up the feed ramp is critical, especially with JHPs, and the magazine plays a big role in determining that. Replace your factory magazines with higher end ones and you may find your gun suddenly eats JHPs like Kobayashi shovels down hot dogs.

Excellent 1911, congrats. The spirit of Col. Jeff Cooper is well pleased.
Good trigger time to you. " The modern technique of the pistol "( good read) by J. Cooper

Just For The Fun Of It

Congrats. I have a Bul M5 Government, 45acp (polymer). Bought it used, have had it for years. Fire 2 magazines on the range once a month...and it can be dropped. Doesn't overheat (even in 90 degree weather), never jammed, never malfunctioned. It even goes hunting with me ;)

Beauty's only skin deep but reliability counts to the bone :D

Sharp looking pistol. Springfield Makes some beautiful Pistols. I think their Wood grips keep them a little classic while displaying that awesome logo. Just classy if you ask me. Congrats and enjoy!
