Weird results with OAL for AR

Right. I was also rather narrowly addressing two factors to explain how he might be measuring what his gauge said should be a bullet jammed well into the lands, but which turned out not to touch them.

I haven't explained my situation very well pertaining to my load being jammed into the lands. I'm very verbal, not so good at explaining things in written form. But, what I meant to convey was that according to my initial measurements, I should have been into the lands when I'm pretty sure now that I was right at the lands when I thought I was .020 thou off.

But now thanks to the help I've received I'm pretty sure how I was interpreting my data was incorrect and now have it pretty straight in my mind. I'll have everything straightened out and working before the end of the week. I have a membership in an indoor 100 yd range just a few miles from work. So I just stop in on my way home 2-3 times a week. Makes it pretty easy to work things out.

then just treat the measurement you were seating at as a starting point (datum) and increase or decrease the length in .003 to .010 increments to see if performance increases. That was why I suggested the Lee hand press and a trip to the range with a box of bullets seated long

Yeah, I think I'm going to get a hand press and give it a try. I like this idea. But for now I'm just going to verify my length by using the sharpie method and go from there.

Thanks for fixing the original post. Reading my reply again, it probably came across as much more snarky than intended. Sorry about that.
But, thanks for fixing it.
It was almost unreadable before.

That being said...
I don't have much else to add here. Everything I considered bringing up has been covered by other posters.

It's cool. I don't take things the way they come off on the Internet. I don't post a lot but I'm always listening and learning so I've come to know how most of the frequent contributers are and what they mean. I've been told I'm rather blunt in nature so I'm never offended by the same, I actually appreciate it. I don't think of it as being blunt as much as being direct, which I consider a good attribute. I'm Norwegian so it's kind of in my nature.
