Weekly Wal-mart Trip

WalMart generally has very good prices and that's why people shop there. Nobody is forced to buy anything there. That's why it amazes me that so many people 'bad mouth' them while admiting shop there.

I did complain to Arkansas on product availibility and lack of help.
And I'm looking at a letter of apology and a 10 bucks gift card from my local store manager.

I'm not a professional shopper where I'm going to make multiple trips per week to shop at Walmart. All I ask is to have stocked shelves and enough employees to staff these Taj Mahal's their building.

I here ya Duckkkk, every WM I have been in here in AR it's the same story. "Sorry, we're out of that right now", that's when you can get some help.

Heck, I have no use for Wally World but hey, I can't get ammo from Mid-South or Midway....why should I expect Walmart to do better. (and midsouth never gave me $10 when they were out of stock)

With the likes of the people who usually work there, it's probably a good thing that Walmart doesn't sell handguns anymore. I'm really surprised that many of the Walmart stores actually still sell long guns. But that being said, I've been in some local gun stores where the guys working behind the counter didn't know the difference between a revolver and an auto.

Im not implying that its a Wal-fart policy but one of our local Wal-farts actually hides the 9mm, 40mm, and 45 acp ammo in a wooden desk and there are no signs anywhere even stating they have these commonly used rounds. For months our local store even left the price tags of these rounds on the shelves next to all the other ammo and all the sales people claimed they didnt have any and they didnt know when they were going to get any ammo.

The truth came out one day when a new guy that I asked about the ammo said "Yes, we have those but we keep them locked up over here." (or somthing close to this) and then called his very unhappy manager who begrugingly opened up the unmarked wooden door and revealed a very reasonable supply of 9,40,45 ACP ammo.

I complained to every level of management including the national level and never got more than blown off.

So if your being told they dont have the rounds.... maybe they don't and maybe they do... It is most certainly a political thing as its mighty hard to sell products that arent available to the public eye and the sales people deny having.

Sounds familiar. For a period of almost 3 years my local Wal-Mart never put any new ammo on the shelves. Every time you would pass by the sporting goods counter you would find the same old boxes of rifle ammo that had been sitting on the shelves for years. Then a couple of years ago they remodeled the inside of the store slightly, and part of those renovations was a new ammo counter, that now actually has handgun ammo in stock.

I'm surprised that you guys have found hidden handgun ammo at WalMarts. Walmart usually has a laser sharp focus on squeezing every last dime out of their stores. Managers get bonuses based on sales and profitability. They identify products that don't sell and get them off the shelves and replace them with something that does sell faster than any large retailer in history. Nothing sells worse than something that customers don't know about. It has got to be some kind of individual anti-gun thing. Because when corporate WalMart notices someone will catch it bigtime.

That being said, there is variation in my area in whether the store will carry Guns and ammo. Some will carry ammo but not guns. The inventory varies, but usually the most common calibers are available, and cheap. There are a couple stores that don't carry either. I live in a major metro area and I'm thinking of the 6 or 7 Walmarts I know of within an hours drive.

The fact that in the post above they have the ammo but hide it confirms for me that someone in management hid it from personal motivation.

Wal-mart is a an evil we and I mean me has to deal with. Even if i don't like wal-mart they do have some things I can't get anywhere else. So for those items there is no going someplace else. If it were that easy I would. Sometimes you have to go where the prices are as well. Here in Oklahoma City at Wal-mart I can get the Winchester white box 9mm for about $20 for 100 and if I go to BPS it is nearly $26 . So I go to Wal-mart for that.

BPS?

Bass Pro Shop? Stop making me think, it took me longer to think about that than it did for you to spell out BASS............ PRO............. SHOP!

I hate that!!!:barf:

I was back today for 3 items at my local suburban WM......40 cal ammo, a spark plug for my lawn edger, and sunflower seeds with the shells to set up my swimming pool chipmunk trap. I'm overrun with the critters I have to drown em.

I swear on my mother's grave they did not have any of the 3 items. Ammo was 90% gone, zero .40 s&w, The hook was empty on the size plug I need, and I could not believe it, my mouth dropped, they were out of sunflower seeds(honest). This is a 6 month old super store.

As a rule, stemming from an upbringing in which my mother was a part local merchant, I dislike Wal-Mart because of thier predatorial/parasitic methods of destroying local business, and having studied Sam Walton, I don't think he would approve of what his store has become.

That being said, I always luck when I *must* venture to Wal-Mart for shooting supplies, sometimes you need to buy ammo on sunday, in that being a rural area, my wal-mart's gun counter had a friendly older gentleman that would be at home behind the counter of my local gun shop and just as knowledgeable, not that I ever really needed his assistance, but it was a pleasent diversion to talk guns and what not why the lady pushed the cart about and loaded up on health food.:barf:

As a general rule, i go through the local Wallyworld (smalltown) about once per week, and usually it is either 7pm or midnight for some reason. Their stocks of the pistol ammo i buy are not consistent but have been reasonable for the last year or so. I was not usually fully satisfied with the clerks' knowledge of the ammo they were selling, and i once actually was asked to walk around the counter and point out what i needed. However, i have noticed the local store now has a retired military guy or two who are VERY helpful and knowledgable; i haven't had to point at anything.

The local store does have a three box limit that most employees remember, but that is usually adequate for me. When i need SKS ammo, i order 1,000 rounds online & watch for the BBT.

If you really subscribe to that point of view, you'd wait until Monday to buy your ammunition. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm a fan of sorts of Wal Mart and I'm reminded of someone's retort to Senator Kennedy's long-standing criticisms against Wal Mart (because they are allegedly anti-union, anti-women, anti-small business-as if Kennedy could care, etc.), when he said (I'm paraphrasing a little here): "Well, Ted, if you hate Wal Mart so much, stop shopping there."

Lol...man I made a major boo boo and our local walmart...the clerk asked me if it was a rifle or pistol I was buying the 45 ammo for and me being a joker I said neither smg and the dude pushed the pistol button and ever since then I cannot buy 9mm or 45 there..the dude is a ahole big time...but I can travel 40 mins away and buy all the ammo they have in stock...weird isn't it....the manager at the old walmart said they have probable cause to believe the ammo is going into a pistole...bs..and im 19

Something hit me upside the head.....F Walmart.

I am tired of strolling through there only to see empty shelves, no help, and whatever.

Tomorrow, I am going to go to a small gun shop that I forgot about until recently, but I am using as a FFL, and who tried his best to match an online price on a Sig but wasn't even close but was still decent. I'm going to strike up a relationship with this dude tomorrow.

From here on out, as long as long as a local tries to treat me with respect, and works with me on the bucks, I am buying local. I can see a lot of ammo sales on the horizon I hope.

All I can say to that is sometimes a man's principles must take a back seat when the Lady Friend announces the she and her sister would like to shoot some skeet in the backyard.

I'm with the OP that its annoying when WW doesn't have a full time person working the ammo/outdoor section. Esp when I just pop in there just to buy range ammo before I go; it makes the whole experience kinda long.

Instead of "give me 2 boxes of 9mm", its "paging an associate to .."

In Vegas

Life is good, thanks for your comments.:D

WM is well stocked in my hood. And the Monday Sunday thing, I do what you call plan ahead.
