Weak Walmart ammo (reliability issue)

Remington 115 grain mc 9mm 250 round box. Loaded so weak they won't cycle the action in my wife's 9mm Kahr pm9 or her HK Usp compact. They will usually cycle in my hands (stonger wrists) but still will often not retract far enough to not leave the shell in the action.

Just a heads up. Not a gun issue, I don't think, as my 115 grain middle of the road (not hot) handloads work fine in both guns.

I have never had aproblem with wally world ammo. What brand did you get? my bad Remington. I have good luck with their ammo. Magtech is the only ammo I have had a problem with.

I can't count the number of Remington 115gr 9mm's I've sent down the range with no issue. But I wouldn't rule out a bad batch. If you think it's the ammo, I'd let Remington know and provide them with the lot number... Maybe they'll send you some free ammo.

I really don't think that the major ammo makers would have a separate loading line just to make ammo for wal-mart. I would let remington know you're having problems with remington ammo.Edited to add, I just saw the post about the sureshot ammo being an exclusive,so maybe I'm wrong about that. But I would think that it would be wal-mart branded. But ,then again,I can't see wal-mart putting there name on too much gun related stuff lately.JMO

I was going to say, "What does that have to do with Wal-Mart?"

WallyWorld is HUGE and can put pressure on manufacturers to lower prices. I'd love to know how the ammo manufacture's have responded if at all, they have massive responsibilities.

Doubt it was any issue with the ammo because it was sold at Walmart. Maybe a weird batch (doubtful but possible) but I'm guessing Walmart had nothing to do with it.

I use a lot of ammo bought at Walmart, Winchester and Remington, assorted calibers and haven't had any issues with it.

Does this only happen when your wife is shooting? The reason I ask is that she maybe limp wristing a little. In my opinion, the cheap Remington I get from Walmart have about the same power as the Wolf brand. Both seem a little on the light side for charge but I would think they would cycle your pistols if fired with a firm grip.

Ive shot thousands of WWB from Mutant Mart. The only time Ive ever had a problem was with the flat nosed FMJ .380acp's in my Bersa. Ive heard about the weak charges but never seen one in all those rounds.

Was this the Remington-UMC ammo in the yellow box?

I've NEVER liked that ammo. It's their version of the Winchester White Box, but is FAR dirtier and less reliable.

I have also had problems with the UMC big box of 250. My Springfield EMP has a hard time locking the slide with them. They have enough power to cycle it, but that's it. The Winchester USA (whitebox) has a noticeably sharper kick and the EMP loves them.

I bought a few thousand rounds since they are made a few towns away and I was being "patriotic". Now I am popping them off as fast as possible just to get the brass to re-load.

I recently had a stove pipe with Remington green & white box 9mm fmj from wal-mart in a Sig P239 that hasn't choked in years. A few years ago I kept getting bad batches of Winchester white box that wouldn't cycle the slide.

Cheap ammo yields poor results. I keep a few boxes of white box hollowpoints to supplement premium loads but I don't worry too much about the reliability of the target stuff unless it's so bad it becomes annoying at the range.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I know of several manufactures who manufacture products specifically for Wal-Mart. Marineland Aquariums, for instance, makes a line for Wal-Mart called Aqua-Tech. Regular Marineland equipment is great, the Aqua-Tech stuff is cheap junk. Wal-Mart tells them what they will pay for the product and the manufacturing quality is adjusted accordingly. If I'm not mistaken several gun manufactures do the same thing. Wal-Mart is the largest retailer in the world, running a line just for them is nothing considering the sales volume they offer.

Clarification: I'm not saying this is the case with ammunition in question, just that making SKU's just for Wal-Mart that are different than other products in a company's line is not an uncommon practice.

But you can buy the same WWB loadings from other stores and several online sites, in the exact same packaging. I've never noticed a difference between WWB (9mm, .38spl and .45acp are the only calibres I buy) from WalMart or any of my local gun shops that also sell it.

Just saying that at least for WWB, WalMart's boxes sure seem to be the same WWB you can get anywhere else.
