While admitting "we were wrong" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, President Bush's national security adviser on Sunday rejected assertions that the president manipulated intelligence and misled the American people.

Bush relied on the collective judgement of the intelligence community when he determined that Iraq's

once again we dont get the whole truth !

There was no collective judgment on Iraq's WMDs. The information came from a souce called "Curveball" who was more than likely a Chalabi operative. Chalabi was one of the persons who the Bush Administration relied upon, but who has now beem discredited. There was no "collective" agreement on curveball. Part of the CIA said his information was trash and Tenet just ignored it and gave Bush the information he wanted to start a war.

Colin Powell even caught wind of it and asked Tenet eyeball to eyeball if he stood behind it and there was no doubt about the info. Tenet vouched for this junk info to Powell and he told it before the UN. This is one reason Powell resigned, unlike the some others in the administration Powell is a class act, but he doesnt appreciate being lied to. He is a team player and will not whine and point fingers. If Powell got wind the info may have been worthless you can bet others in the administration heard it and just ignored it because we must have a war with Iraq.

Great to know that you can do things like that cost 2000 American lives resign, and get a Freedom Medal like Tenet, makes me nauseated.

This is an administration that should be trusted to apply the Patriot Act justly ? To be entrusted to use the military during an epedemic? If they cant be truthful to the American People I dont think so.

"All I know is Saddam gassed (hello WMD's!) his own people.A fact stupid, naive liberals love to forget."

these do not a nuclear weapon male Te

Please dont use this again.......I have seen the film of the gassed Kurds and know that it happened. The US Governement probably supplied the helicopters they used.

Helicopters and Nerve agent dont make a strategic threat against the US. Please come up with something better and that is a strategic threat

Rumsfeld was Regeans special envoy to Saddam. Regean knew then that Iraq was using chemical weapons against Iran..duh

No I dont have Rett's syndrome and

what he says

Eghad---take some time and do some research on the subject. There are tons of info both ways. As I said we erred on the side of caution. Clinton said they had them, all the Dems as well. More then enough intel as well as other countries. After what happened in 9/11 the was no room for chance. If we did nothing and he did have the abilty---then what. BTW, what do you suppose his scientists were trying to do. Do you remember that the man in charge of obtaing nuclear weapons defected and told everyone what exactly he was trying to do and obtain?!

I do research on it and terrorism everday..... My major is in Homeland Security......

I have seen dozens of documentaries and read dozens of articles and will continue to do so as part of my studies in Homeland Security at a local University. As part of this I also have completed courses from the Homeland Security Agency which have led to certifications.

I just finished an executive summary of Chapter 11 of the 9/11 Commission for my paper.

I am currently reading the Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and next up is Messages To The World The Statements of Osama Bin Laden I just finished The Third Terrorist which I reccomend if you want to see the ineptitude of the FBI that led to 9/11. Jayna Davis lays out a pretty compelling case. Have you read any of these?

if you think Im a bleeding heart liberal when it comes to terrorism your wrong. I dont appreciate incompetence and being lied to or misled by those entrusted with protecting the country.Reading I plan to do

The Life of Muhammad - translation of the earliest biography of Muhammad
already own a copy of the Koran in English (Penguin Books)
An introduction to Islamic Law - Schact

I buy all this stuff with my hard earned $$$. If you plan to fight an enemy you have to be able to get into his head and know him.

I apologize if I offended anyone. but I really didnt appreciate Third making light of folks with a disease either.

you said it better

Sigh..

Life should not be more complicated than it is....

if a notorious bad guy has shot someone before and goten away with it, and then he hides in his house after someone else gets shot up by someone and when asked to come out says "Why, I dont have a gun, but if you come in I will shoot you" I am sure a fast entry and search is justified.

Sadam has no one to blame but himself

All the rest is second guessing to advance political agendas. Roosevelt knew about Pearl Harbour remember?

I must be out of the loop though, I only have a masters in Pol Sci with a concetration on International relations and Strategic Studies

For expedience, I'll stipulate to your assertion that the Bush administration was wrong about WMDs in Iraq. (You are completely wrong, but for the sake of argument, let's get past this point.)

So, what should be done now to rectify the situation in Iraq or, as an alternative, please tell me who you would rather have in the White House prosecuting this war?

Te Anau,
All I know is that Bush sent off his own people to get killed (Now over 2000) because he couldnt be patient to go to war.

Rumsfeld " I can win this war with 138,000" should have been fired. Tenet should have been fired. The Leadership in the Pentagon tells him he needs closser to 300,000 so Rumsfeld fires them. The only guy I would have faith in is a guy like Norman Schwarzkopf. He lived in the Middle East with his dad who was in the military and understands the people there. He is a solid military leader and not a Fortune 500 kind of guy. Colin Powell would be another choice but chances of getting him back are slim and none.

The public proof is there that Rumsfeld asked for targets in Iraq right after 9/11. Our present doctrine for the war in Iraq was written shortly after Desert Storm by Wolfowitz. Cheney as SecDef had to change the word to delete references to taking the Initiative. Cheney and Rumsfeld were practically foaming at the mouth to go to war with Iraq.....

Then along comes the Iraq has Strategic and Nuclear WMDs capable of being launched within minutes...and its off to war.

I dont disagree with the war with Iraq..but the haste with which it was started and the reason for doing it. Given time we could have gotten the military things like it needed i.e arored vehicles which have been recommendations since 93. Body Armor, our TCS orders stated we would be shipped with Interceptor Body Armor, we got flak vests instead. Given more time Colin Powell could have proably shored our position up within the world and gotten the right reasons to go to war with Iraq.

Then Cheney comes along with they will be throwing rose petals at our soldiers feet. Insted our soldiers get IEDs. Can you fire a Vice President?

having said that, I am not an oppenent to the war in Iraq....I am an opponent to the way this war is being waged piecemeal and on a shoestring. If your going to fight a war fight it dont just pinprick it.

So Blue I am going to have to disagree with you.

Saddam had ten years to comply with UN resolutions.

Then Bush gave him fourteen months to comply, under threat of military action.

That's a rush to war? Fourteen months? What would have been an appropriate amount of time, another ten years? A hundred years?

You want to know where the WMD are, well he had 14 months to hide them, or what a lot of people believe, ship them to Syria. If Bush actually did rush to war, we might have actually found the WMD.

1. What does this have to do with firearms?
2. Eghad...what killed the Kurds?[\quote]

1. read the forum description

Round table discussions range from the Bill of Rights, to concealed carry, to general political issues.

2. read my other posts

3. The gas used on the Kurds is a tactical weapon not a stategic weapon. Nerve gas is a "denial of area weapon" and to boot is finicky to use. The use of it on the Tokyo subway killed 8 people. It vapor form too cold it freezes, too hot it evaporates. The wind diffuses it. If I was a terrorist I would shy away from it... I dont think you could carry enough of it under your overcoat to a large event to kill hundreds of people. The again you could get a cropduster or helicopter to spray it.... but what would the chances of two middle eastern guys renting one of those going unreported these days?
