Wayne LaPierre

I've been wondering for a long time about Mr. LaPierre. I feel he has been a strong force in the NRA and has done alot to further the fight for gun rights but what I'm wondering is if anybody knows how much, if any, he recieves as compensation from the NRA. As Executive V.P. does he recieve a salary and how much if he does? When you see him hunting in Africa on the televised hunting programs is the NRA paying for his trip?
Doing my best not to be cynical but in this day and age I just wonder.... If any one out there has a clue please fill me in. I have been a member of the NRA and the NRA ILA for many years and have donated alot of money thru the years and would love to hear that I haven't been financing a rich man's hobbies.

Other NRA officials have taken African hunts, they are not paid for by the NRA. ESPN (or whatever producer) foots the expenses and product sponsors provide equipment for those trips. NRA gets exposure and it's message out, TV producers get nationally known personalities to increase their ratings....it's as simple as that.

And I guess I'm in the minority when I say that's just wrong. Think of the good that could be done with half of that. I just didn't know you could become a millionare working for a not-for-profit organization.
I've got half a mind to cancell my membership.

I think it may have some impact on how much people opt to donate, and in that sense it bears on firearms.

Many people, when they give to a non-profit, want to know how the money is spent. What percentage of my dollar is actually doing the work I want, as opposed to paying for advertising, salaries, etc?

One place where I lived in the not too distant past had a huge scandal over the amount of money the Blood Bank received, and what its executives were paid. Do you think that didn't impact where people went to donate blood?

So, it could bear on firearms, as it could impact the revenue the NRA receives from a percentage of its donors.

The NRA has a total income of close to $250 million a year.

The fact that its CEO, who works tirelessly and is largely responsible for its income, makes $900,000+ a year doesn't surprise, or bother me.

If it makes some people want to quit donating, then everyone should quit giving to the American Cancer Society, because its CEO makes $2.2 million a year.

The NRA is not a charity, what the bosses are paid is not relevant. A million a year, if accurate, amounts to about $4 per member, out of $35. That doesn't take into consideration the millions they recieve in donations, bequests, etc. I'm not apologizing for the million buck salary, but I don't feel in the least put out or angered, I look at the good they do. If you think half of that million would do a lot of good, it already is, consider where your right to own firearms would be if you paid half the money for half the results.

Considering the complexity of managing an association like the NRA and taking note of how successful the NRA has been during his tenure at the helm, he is underpaid.

kilimanjaro, it's not a charity, it's more like a PAC. But, if you look at members (such as me) as stockholders, using a corporate model, then normally we would know the salaries of the board and CEO.

And a PAC, much like a charity, should let its supporters know how their donations are spent.

That's one way to decide between competing PACs.

Edit: I don't have an issue with LaPierre getting around a $1M salary, so long as the NRA is effective in achieving my goals.

I am kind of appalled that the CEO at ACS gets $2.2M...

I think someone got that a little backwards: LaPierre works 24/7 and the constitutionally irresponsible President Obama vacations between rounds of golf while we pay for floors of hotel suites, separate jets for Michelle Antoinette and the shorties as well as lavish fundraising parties.
