WASR-10 Opinions

What are your thoughts on the WASR-10 AK-47? Have you had any experiences with them good or bad? Are stamped receivers as good as milled receivers? I always hear that you can drag them through mud, bury them, run them over, etc. Is that still the case with stamped receivers? Any upgrades you would recommend if I get one?

EDIT: Just a few random questions ... What is your favorite style stock? Normal, side folder, under folder? Also, can you put AK-74 muzzle brakes on the WASR-10/AK-47? Lastly, if I decide to get one, should I get a "new" one or would you trust a used one? I'm thinking about going pawn shop hopping ..
.

I bought a WASR10 during the "we just got a democratic president, we might have a another gun ban" scare so I overpaid by a long shot. mine had so much mag wobble that the steel surplus mags will not work with it at all, the polymer mags run like a Deere though. mine had a canted front sight post and did not come with the original tool kit in the stock(since it did not come with the original stock). overall if you can find one for less than $450 and it has a straight front sight post and it doesn't have a great deal of mag wobble then I would say it's a good buy.

for the record I have shot a number of AKs and all had different stocks. the one that absorbed recoil the best was the side folder stock that I have on my wasr. wire stock, woodstock(metal butt plate), underfolder, I just cant shoot them all that much(and I shoot Enfields a lot). a little upgrade I made to my side folder was using paracord wrap to make a mild recoil buffer on the back and to raise the cheek weld along the length.

EDIT: I dont believe that you can use the muzzle brake from the 74s on the WASR since the AK74 is 5.45 and the WASR is 7.62 but there are a number of different options for AKS and most(if not all) will fit the WASR

Nothing wrong with the wasr's. I don't own one personally as I have a polish but a few of my buddies have them. No issues at all on any of them. Yes there is some mag wobble but it does not affect the performance AT ALL.

I think most people that slam the wasr are generally cork sniffers. Since they paid over 800 for their arsenal there is no way a $430 wasr can be any good at all. The arsenals are fantastic at any price. But don't get caught up in the hype and pestiege/ Harley davidsonism and just have fun shooting..

I bought a cheap CA WASR-10 (10 round single stack), cut out the mag well to accept hi cap mags, added cheap Tapco Itrafuse stock and forgrip, and added Tapco slant muzzle break.

The thing is ugly and never quits! Cost me $400. I already have shot $1800 worth of ammo from it. Can hit pop cans at 50 yards and man sized targets at 100yards. One of the funnest guns I own!
