Want to get a revolver, S&W 19 or...?

Nothing nicer than a good 19. Everything you need in a revolver and nothing you don't. Made during a time when that famous logo meant something.

You can't go wrong with a model 19 4" for a great all around gun.

If you can find one they are great.

Great choice!

Great gun!!

These guys know what they're talking about! Anything close to the condition as advertised for $500.00 would be a great buy, imo.

I like the K-frames, too, especially the .38 Special-only models 14 and 15, the "Masterpiece" and "Combat Masterpiece". There is also a stainless Combat Master piece, the Model 67. These guns have outstanding accuracy and are just a blast to shoot. With .38 Specials you can shoot all day without hurting your hand or the gun. They also make excellent home defenders, which won't over-penetrate into the neighbor's house and won't deafen you like a .357 Magnum might.

Thanks guys, very helpful.

I will see what they have to rent on my next range trip. My hands are on the average size but my fingers are pretty thick/fat.

for reference here is me holding my PPQ:

Lots of folks with your body type don't like the stock grips in the above photo. Don't let that deter you. There are dozens of nice alternatives.

Ahrends grips are smaller. I've owned them but I'm opposite of you, viz. big hands, long fingers. I didn't like Ahrends because they were too small for me. I like the S&W original factory grips.

Lots of grip options on J, K, L and N frame S&W's....to fit your hands.

I favor the older style, finger groove S&W wood grips - when I can find them.

There are plenty of aftermarket grips for S&Ws. I cannot fire any S&W with factory grips, my 6" M-19 wear a pair of Herrett's quasi-Jordan style-smooth with arched backstrap, my 4" has Pachmayrs.

Ahhh, the classic M19, probably the most beautiful .357 DA. :)

I had always wanted a stainless revolver when I got my 686, but the pure beauty of a blued M19 or M27 with wood grips has always called to me. I will have one of those before long, with the only question being if I want to shoot it a LOT, or only shoot it some and admire it a LOT. The M27 is tougher, but not as sleek and sexy.

I have a Model 19 and several N-Frames. I prefer the N frame for carry and use. The K Frame shoots a teensey-weensey bullet out of a tiny case. It is just large enough that it does not fit in my pocket like a J Frame. Why have a tiny gun when you can have a burly gun with a boomy caliber? Why shoot a mere .357 diameter bullet when you can have .429 or .452? You only get six to eight shots, so the bullets may as well be huge!

Actually, I just prefer the weight and balance of the N-Frame over the others. I do like how S&W managed to cram eight rounds of 357 Magnum into an N-Frame cylinder.

Which do you prefer?

Seriously, try A variety of Rugers and S&W revolvers. I suspect you will do well with an S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 with four inch barrel. Do not discount a gun with five inch barrel. You can still carry it and the gun shoots a bit better.
