Want a new 9mm

Hey yall. I've been thinking about getting another 9mm. I have had a Ruger P95 for several years now and have never had a problem with it. Its an awesome, simple and reliable handgun. Recently however, I have really been eying the M&P 9 range kit. My dealer can get it to me for $623 after tax. I've thought about trading my P95 in against that balance as it is still in good condition. From what I have found, the M&P is liked by most if not all folks that own them. Any input is appreciated

I've been pleased with my M&P and M&P Compact. Ergonomics are good for me and the M&P has a good reputation for reliability. Is the $623 price tag for the basic model or one with some bells and whistles such as the Pro model? Bud's has the basic model for $441 and the Pro for $580. I don't mind paying a bit extra to a local store but if that is for the basic model, that's too much. If for the Pro version, it's a fair price. Trading in guns is like trading in cars. You will get less from a dealer because they make money reselling it. So also consider if you want to sell it yourself or skip the hassle.

You ain't going to get squat on the trade-in, on the P95. I'd keep it.

Personally I try (not successfully) to avoid coveteousness. Why do you want the M&P? What does it do that the P95 does not, or do better than the P95?

The one I'm talking about includes a range kit with kydex holster and mag pouches with 2 extra magazines.

This one: M&P Range and Carry Kit?

I'd get the base model, and find your own holster. I think you'd come out ahead.

I love my M&P Compact so much I'm thinking M&P9L Pro Series C.O.R.E. Love those high profile sights & the 5" barrel.

What's your budget? Guessing around $600 since that's the tag for the M&P.

So also look at the

Beretta 92FS

Beretta Storm

Walther PPQ

Walther P99

Sig 226

Sig 229

Again Rugers in polymer frames

go for broke: HK P30

Walther PPQ

Sold my M&P due to the gritty trigger. Bought a PPQ and couldn't be happier. The HK VP9 was not out yet so I didn't get to compare the two.

On trades, my LGS offers 50% of resale, which means you get nuthin'. So private sale makes sense, but trade-in doesn't yield enough to compensate for the loss.

You're a "one gun" person, really?:D 9MM's are like Jello, there's always room for more!
I also think there are more economical ways to scratch your itch. Unless you are just interested in a charitable contribution to your LGS.

Bud's cash price for the M&P9 with range kit is $533. I think that it is also shipped free. It's also listed as "make an offer", so you might get the price down a bit more. The only additional charge would be the FFL transfer. Bud's has a preferred list of dealers that you can choose when you order. Fees range from $20 to $35.

The 9mm Auto pistol market is so competitive that it's getting hard to find a bad one these days.
The thing to consider is how a gun feels to you and how easy the trigger is to reach and press without disturbing the sight alignment.
If you get one you can dry fire without the sights moving, and feels good to your hand I'd say you will probably like it.

I have a CZ75, which I love, but my wife has a Springfield XD which I have to say gives my CZ a real run for the money.
My friend Ed has a SIG 210 witch I have to say is a gem in every way.

I personally dislike DA trigger pulls that make me reach too far with my finger for the first shot. My hands are not big, and I find that many autos are made for large or extra large hands. If you have large hands and long fingers you will not have the same objections I have to many of the current offerings.
There are many good guns that you may not like just because they don’t fit your hand very well. The gun may have a super strong following and be praised by millions, but if you can’t shoot it well the praise of others will not matter to you.

Try a bunch of them. It’s fun anyway, and by taking the time to feel a lot of different guns from different makers and different countries of origin I am sure you will find one that will delight you.

M&P's are fine. Personally I find find Glocks easier to shoot; for me they control better under fire and the trigger is better. If you like the M&P, go for it, it is certainly a step up from an old P95 (purely my opinion, not a statement of fact.)

That said, there are a TON of options in the $600 range for 9MM's.

M&P, Glock, Walther (excellent) Beretta, Kahr, a newer Ruger, a RIA 1911 in 9mm, maybe a used USP.

The world is your oyster.

Before I had actually shot any of the poly frame auto's I thought I would go with an M&P, but ended up putting them at the bottom of my list (Glock, Walther, M&P) after actually shooting them. That said, it is a great gun that happens to have a lot of great competition.

I've had an M&P9c for six years now and it's been as good a handgun as any I've handled. Reliable, accurate, good ergos, everything you'd want.

Please do yourself a favor and don't forget to check out the Sig Sp 2022. I have an m&p .40 c.o.r.e. I love the way the m&p's feel. Can't say anything bad about them. But you could get a Sp 2022 cheap and keep the Ruger. Food for thought.

Of all of the polymer frame handguns that I have owned the M&P is by far my favorite. Thats not to say the others are not great guns though. The only one I can say that I truly disliked was the Springfield XD.

Among pistols who come to mind, the IWI Jericho has one of the best out-of-the-box triggers among all of them, and it is CHEAP, even if full steel frame. I think it is marketed in the US as the Baby Eagle.

For roughly half of your budget you can have a Canik Stingray (CZ compact clone), which I own and love. Warning, this is not a carry weapon, very heavy, which is why I like it.

Canik and Tristar have a nice selection of guns, clones of the CZ line. Some have compared them to selections in the Walther line as well.

Do your research. Take your time.

Good luck.

Have an M&P in 9mm & .40 and a Shield in .40.
No complaints at all.
Suggest you keep the Ruger, trade won't help you much.
You don't need any reason at all to covet the M&P.
It's a guy thing.:D
