Can these problems be traced back to S&W and their recent history of poor QC?
No, Walther P22s are all German designed, German made, so I don't think we can blame S&W on this one
Well, I took mine out again yesterday. I bought a LARGE selection of ammo, thanks to Bass Pro's super selection, consisting of Remington Target, Remington Eley Club XTRA, CCI Green Tag, Federal Gold Medal Match 22, Remington Subsonic, RWS Subsonic (subsonic's just for fun). I had a new box of Walmart/Federal 36gr 550 bulk from my stash too.
I had 3 .22 pistols with me, my S&W 22S with 5.5" standard barrel, and 5.5" Bull barrel, Walther P22 with 5" barrel and my new P7K3 w/.22LR Kit.
The S&W 22S Target was flawless with all ammo except the Walmart stuff (a couple of bullet bending failure to feeds) and the RWS subsonic (wouldn't cycle slide). The Fed Gold Medal stuff was awesome, 1/2 groups at 25'. Offhand. I could probably shoot one hole groups with that stuff from a rest! The Eley was a close second.
The Walther was disappointing again, but seemed to not jam as much as previously. Jammed a lot with the Walmart stuff, fed most of the other stuff okay, except for the RWS Subsonic (which I expected). Accuracy was terrible (IMHO) as I could barely keep 5 shots within 5 inches at 25'. Maybe if I benchrest it... Still very disappointed in the P22.
The P7K3 started off pretty good, although it's accuracy was lacking. I had heard that it was not a stellar performer either, and it didn't jam that much for the first 25 rounds or so, then it started jamming too. I'd heard the floating chamber gets pretty fouled and can jam. Need to bring a can a GunScrubber with me if I intend to shoot it a lot!
I'll give the P22 one more try from the bench and see if I can get it to shoot. If not, it's my first Walther lemon and I may have to send it back for repairs. I hate having to do that since it costs so much to ship a handgun anymore
