Walther P22 Problems !!!!

Can these problems be traced back to S&W and their recent history of poor QC?
No, Walther P22s are all German designed, German made, so I don't think we can blame S&W on this one :D

Well, I took mine out again yesterday. I bought a LARGE selection of ammo, thanks to Bass Pro's super selection, consisting of Remington Target, Remington Eley Club XTRA, CCI Green Tag, Federal Gold Medal Match 22, Remington Subsonic, RWS Subsonic (subsonic's just for fun). I had a new box of Walmart/Federal 36gr 550 bulk from my stash too.

I had 3 .22 pistols with me, my S&W 22S with 5.5" standard barrel, and 5.5" Bull barrel, Walther P22 with 5" barrel and my new P7K3 w/.22LR Kit.

The S&W 22S Target was flawless with all ammo except the Walmart stuff (a couple of bullet bending failure to feeds) and the RWS subsonic (wouldn't cycle slide). The Fed Gold Medal stuff was awesome, 1/2 groups at 25'. Offhand. I could probably shoot one hole groups with that stuff from a rest! The Eley was a close second.

The Walther was disappointing again, but seemed to not jam as much as previously. Jammed a lot with the Walmart stuff, fed most of the other stuff okay, except for the RWS Subsonic (which I expected). Accuracy was terrible (IMHO) as I could barely keep 5 shots within 5 inches at 25'. Maybe if I benchrest it... Still very disappointed in the P22.

The P7K3 started off pretty good, although it's accuracy was lacking. I had heard that it was not a stellar performer either, and it didn't jam that much for the first 25 rounds or so, then it started jamming too. I'd heard the floating chamber gets pretty fouled and can jam. Need to bring a can a GunScrubber with me if I intend to shoot it a lot!

I'll give the P22 one more try from the bench and see if I can get it to shoot. If not, it's my first Walther lemon and I may have to send it back for repairs. I hate having to do that since it costs so much to ship a handgun anymore :(

The SIG Trailside has a history of being so ammunition sensitive that it would only function properly with CCI Stingers. (At least the one I shot was.) These things happen.

Well I just picked up my new Walther P22 (3.5") yesterday and took her out to the range today. It functioned PERFECTLY! I shot 300 rounds of CCI Mini Mags through it and not one single FTF, FTE, Double Feed, etc. I was also extremely amazed at the accuracy that I was getting with it. The 9 and 10 rings were littered with holes. This gun is a definate keeper. I think I like it as much as my SIG's..... well, I won't go that far!

I'm sorry to hear that some of you guys are having such problems with yours. It doesn't seem to make much sense. Some are flawless while others are terrible?? To those who are having the problems, try the CCI's. Not that it matters, but that is what they are test fired with at the factory. I would say if your still having the problems after all various brands of ammo, it may unfortunately need to take a trip back to the factory for a little TLC.

If a .22lr requires CCI stingers or mini-mags to function correctly its a poor gun.The real test is with $9.00 for 500 bulk ammo such as Remington's golden bullets.IMHO:p

I just tried the CCI Stingers. You guys weren't joking! This is one hot load. I didn't have any problems with it except when I tried to chamber the first round by releasing the slide. A few times, the gun would jam. I would have to release the magazine and then try again.

After I shot 100 Stingers, I tried the Federal, and this time with much better results. I shot 200 rounds with one FTE(stove pipe) and maybe three FTF. A much improvement from the first two outings. I'm still disappointed in its accuracy. I normally shoot much better when I shoot a Ruger or Browning.

There is one thing I noticed, when I slam the magazine in, the slide would shut by it self. At first I thought thia may be by design but then I realized that if I just lightly tap the bottom of the grip, the slide would just close all by it self. I'm not sure if this is suppossed to happen. Has this happed to anyone else with a P22?

I guess I'll be selling this one soon.

My brother bought a P22 a couple of months ago, and it still will not feed and shoot anything but the most expensive .22 ammo....It's no more "accurate" than my Ruger MkII Standard, either....That's not his biggest problem, however. The roll pin that goes across the rear of the slide right at the thumb safety keeps walking out of the gun to the left....it jams up the gun.
Definitely a QA problem with these guns, IMO...

I have to say sorry for the ones that have so much trouble with the walther P22. We have or sold 12 of the P22's and all are working great!!!!!!!!

P22 and hollow points

I have nothing but problems with Federal Hollow Points too. Never a single jam with regular rounds - best I've found so far are those Aguila rounds from Cabela's!!
