Walther P-22?!?

Peter,

Ok. Got back from the range yesterday, and did the magnet thing while cleaning the P22. Here's what I found:

Magnetic: (some are real obvious)

Barrel, barrel sleeve & nut, receiver, trigger assembly & hammer (but not the trigger itself), guide rod & spring, mag release, rear sight, all the screws I could get a magnet on. Also, the roll pins are all magnetic.

Non-magnetic:

Frame (incl. rails, & barrel housing block), slide, and the trigger.

On to bigger things. Re: your comment about the clays, yesterday was the first day I shot it with the 3.4 inch barrel. We have to get a 100yd comp going. Shooting Stingers, drop was about 15 inches at 100yds. After I figured out my holdover, I got three rounds at 4.5 inches horizontal, and 1.8 inches vertical spread, just fooling around with a r.h. barricade hold between rifle shots. Kind of hard to spot the hits. :D

10-12" Paper plates painted flourescent orange under flat black sounds like fun.

Mine appears to be identical to yours. I think the metal in the frame slide rails is stainless steel, and stainless is not magnetic. Thanks for the confirmation of the similarities.

Peter,

Same here, thanks back. I initially was a bit ambivalent about mine, but the more I shoot it, the better I like it. I also don't know what the non-magnetic metals are, but I won't worry about it until(if) it becomes a problem. I am really surprised that it may be a more accurate shooter than some of us thought (although I think most didn't care for the stiff DA pull and the degraded accuacy because of that). I'm going to quit fooling around and give mine a real accuracy check next time out, at 7, 25, 50, and 100, with both barrel lengths, just to see. I'll have to give the ammo selection some thought. I'll post results.

I had one but it was too small and too light for me. It also had a nasty habit of having the slide stop release the slide when I bumped a mag into the mag well. It saves a move yeah but it did bother me. I am used to heavy .22 pistols like the Ruger MKII. On the positive side, it is a cool little gun and the threaded barrel was interesting :). Make sure and get the finger mags. It would make an excellent starter pistol for a child or a woman. All kind of good things about this pistol but it just wasn't for me.
