 Is it just my walmart or has every walmart stopped selling rifles, They had great prices on .22s and varius hunting rifles. what gives? democrat CEO take over or somthing? I have to drive 60 miles to pay too much for a new 10/22 now. " POLITICAL CORECTNESS STRIKES AGIN"

I work at Wal-Mart. The reason some stores stopped selling was that corporate decided to look over all the stores that sold guns. Some stores simply did not sell enough guns to make it worthwhile to continue to sell them. So those stores stopped selling guns. Some stores, like mine, sold more than enough to make it worthwhile so we continue to sell guns.

Now all I wish is that we could at least special order handguns. We can't even do that and that is crap. I also wish we would get our 2007 catalog instead of the worn out 2006 one with the out of date prices.

Sales dollars, in terms of dollars per square foot of floor space per day/week/month is the control.

Some Wallies have expanded their gun sales departments. Thomasville, Georgia; Odessa, Texas. I've seen fair-sized departments elsewhere.

It's been a good number of years since Wal-Mart deliberately went out of the handgun business because of the bad PR and hassles.

The nearby Super Wal-Mart has stopped selling guns. I am not surprised they didn't sell many firearms. At this store, you couldn't see what guns they had or the prices on the ammo. They even had (have) the scopes and scope mounts where you cannot examine them. Apparently management could care less whether guns, ammo, or accessories are sold. I am generally a defender of Wal-Mart, but they are not nice to shooters, so far as I can tell.

One of the Walmarts in my area still sells rifles and shotguns. All of the walmarts within 20 miles of me still sell ammo and accessories.

That's where I buy my scopes, rings, ammo, bipods, etc...

I hope so!:D

Last time I was at Walls-Mart, their ammo was behind painted wood and you couldn't see it LOL. If you wanted ammo, you had to ask the person in sporting goods (which of course was nowhere to be found) if they had ammo you were looking for.

Every time I'm in any Walls-Mart, there is never an employee in the sporting goods section. I don't think they care at all about selling anything in sporting goods.

Even having someone paged to sporting goods is a 10 minute wait at the least.

The only thing I buy at Walls-Mart now is fishing lures. I do have to give them credit for being proponents of fishing.

There are a few more than 1300 stores still selling guns, they are evaluating if they are going to re-stock some of the stores that the guns were pulled from.

The ONLY way that Wal-Mart will know where to put guts back is if you send them letters asking for the guns to be put back, get your local clubs and ranges to write letters. They are looking at them on a case by case basis.

I know, it is disappointing. I bought my first Remington 700 at a WalMart (they had, by far, the best price) that no longer sells anything but pellet guns and ammo.

Only one out of the ten or so Walmarts I have visited in the last year continues to sell long guns.

I will write a letter... and try to get my club involved... but don't expect any magic to issue from the bean-counters.

A heads up, we had price increases on all Winchester ammo. Other brands of ammo are probably gona be going up as well very soon. I bought some more 22 LR ammo.

Its not that bad...

The only real benefit of WM selling long guns is that they are/were cheaper than your local gun store.
Your local gun shop and pawnshop sure doesn't WM selling anything firearm related.
With no local competion, these business can charge whatever markup they want.
Kind of like your town was before WM spread like a virus and suffocated all the little shops out of business [well, really mom & pops just sell their stuff on ebay now]

So its kind of good thing if WM doesn't carry firearms at all anymore, well at least for those of us who hold a FFL.
In fact my local gunstore owner is really hoping this happens, she remarked to me that people wouldn't be able to come to her with a WM quoted prices.

I was surprised the WM in town doesn't have any guns or ammo, but has scopes, cleaning kits ,etc. Yet the one in the next town south has reloading supplies, powder, two cases of rifles, stacks of ammo and such. The difference is like day and night between the two.

I've got three Wal-Marts in my "area." One of them, located in a high end shopping area stopped selling guns. Another one a few miles away, still does. The third, about 20 miles or so away, but in a small town, has greatly increased their level of both guns, and firearms related merchandise. Yes, most of what the sell are bolt, and lever action rifles, but they also had a couple of Ruger Mini-14's in there, as well as pump and semi-auto shotguns.

I've only bought one gun from Wal-Mart and that was a 10/22 Ruger. I didn't buy it there because it was cheaper, it was actually more than the 10/22's I've seen in most gun shops. I got it there because it's the "Wally-World Special", and I happened to like that version better than the run of the mill
10/22's I've seen. Had they not had that particular model, I doubt I'd have bought a 10/22 at all.

There's one other benefit.

Wal-Mart is about the last general retailer (can buy milk, eggs, clothing, aspirin, Hot Wheels, and a shotgun at the same store) still selling firearms. This provides the message that guns aren't dirty or evil, and that they are fit for normal society. If Wally World gets out of them completely, then they are further marginalized, with the implication that they need to be relegated to their own stores where they won't corrupt the youth of our nation.

Sure, it's their choice to keep them or not, but as firearms are pushed out of the mainstream, so also their owners will be. Keeping them (even the most politically correct ones) in the public's eye can only help our cause. After all, if those aren't running around and causing mayhem in the store, then they can't be so bad, right?

For Wal-Mart to stop selling guns means good things for the margins of other FFLs, but you can say the same thing about groceries and grocery stores. It would not be a help for our movement.

I stopped going to the Wal-Mart in this area as I couldn't stand the crowds, chaotic parking lot, and long lines. Business must be good.

Anyway, I know that there's still a gun/ammo dept (though smaller and tucked back in the far left hand corner). They sell hunting equipment as well.

Officially it's just your store Johnny
But a quick trip to their online store shows that their offerings is greatly reduced compared to when I looked a year or so ago

does anyone remember the 1950/60 when you could get military rifles for $15
then the factories stated to complain that it killed their busines.so we got the ban on military rifles.it did not help bussiness.but dampened new owners.with all the military rifle sales now more people are becoming gun owners.and more people are turning to reloading.walmarts activite keeps the factories running and in turn keeps the gun dealers supplied. :)

Trust me, the WM online store/site is crap. We can order just about anything other than EBR's in the Sporting goods department. I have to deal with customers who go to and read stuff on the website and then assume that the website is correct or has accurate information. The website lists stuff that no store in the district carries. They don't list alot of stuff on the site that we DO carry in the stores. It causes us endless headaches.

Some customers seem to read the "Available in Stores" tag as "Available in every Wal-mart store." I hate the whining I have to put up with when people get pissed when they drive 60 miles to find that we have never carried X product. "But is says on your website you have it!!! Are you SUREEEEEE???" The WM website is worse than a half baked fruitcake.

I really want to bop those people on the head and say "Bad customer" like you would do to a dog. They won't take "no" for an answer.

The site used to list and very good selection of Rugers and Taurus rifles
One in particular was aTaurus made .22 repro of an old Winchester design
I can't remember the model number
What they are showing is about 10% of what they used to have

Are you saying that there is more available at the store counter?
Like maybe a Taurus repro of an old Winchester .22 that I can't remember the model number of
