Walmart -likes guns

The Wal-Marts here have had hunting rifles, shotguns, and ammo since opening their big Super Store a few years back. In the past year or so they've been adding AR type rifles, both in .22lr and 5.56. This past weekend I counted maybe a half dozen different Brands of AR's. Colt, SIG, Bushmaster, Windham, etc.

I have also heard that the one here will start selling handguns, not only out of a catalog, but they will have a display. I was told S&W would be the main Brand, possibly others.

I wonder what determines which Walmarts carry firearms and ammo. I live in suburban Atlanta and we have a number of gun stores, Bass Pro, Academy Sports and assorted other retailers, so there is indeed a market. However, neither of the two Walmarts I checked carried anything beyond a couple of dusty boxes of .38 ammo and some BBs.

Bought my first rifle, Marlin 336, at Wal Mart. First Revolver, Astra 357 Mag, and my second favorite pistol TZ-75, at Wal Mart. Most of my bulk ammo purchases for 45, 9mm, and 223 I get at wal mart. The Phoenix Wal Mart off of 75th Ave and Lower Buckeye in Phoenix has one of the best selections of bulk ammo in AZ. They also carry 500 rd boxes of 308 target.

My local Wal Mart in Show Low AZ carries a good selection of ARs and bolt guns. I am trying to get them to carry the 308 in bulk. The Manager is actively looking into getting some. They do carry 223 in ammo Cans but they get snapped up as soon as they hit the shelf.

In Apache Junction, AZ the Super Wal Mart there carried almost no ammo or guns. I asked the sporting goods manager about this. She said that it was a corporate policy that only selected stores carried firearms and firearms related materials. When I talked to a clerk I knew, he told me that the store Manager was anti gun and refused to stock guns.

Local store management may be the reason for the disparity between various Wal Mart Stores.

Wal-mart's here in western New York quit selling guns and have limited amounts of ammo. I asked a local manager about it and he said it's because of the State of NY's regulations and paper work involved.

Back when the so-called ammo shortage was bothering everybody I mentioned that I had a few openings in my next permit to carry class to the sporting goods mgr at one of my local wally worlds.

And that I gave discounts to vets and a few select other folks. Like him!

Funny, since then, not only do I get excellent service when I'm there, but also the occasional phone call advising me of the latest goodies.

No Walmarts in my heavily populated area sell firearms, as far as I know.

Correction. I just learned that one Walmart in our area has just begun selling firearms including AKs and ARs.

The carry what sells.

I'm no Walmart expert, but somewhere I got the impression (Sam's biography maybe) that they carry what sells well in the surrounding community. If they have something in the store that doesn't sell . . . they stop carrying it. I frequent two Walmarts that are about 35 miles apart. One carries a nice selection of shotguns and rifles. One does not.

The ones in the south carry hunting shotguns, rifles, and some even have cheap AR clones. I've also seen plinkers but never a handgun.

Ammo wise, they usually have a good selection... even carrying 357 SIG, and if you're nice to the clerk, they'll go to the back and give you a case instead of the one or two boxes they have on the display stand.

I work at a walmart in tennessee and they pick where to sell guns by 2 main things will the guns sell if there in the store and how strict are the gun laws in the state also the only walmarts that are allowed to sell handguns now are the alaskan walmarts. And if your from some of the states with really strict gun laws you cant even go to another state that sells them i think there are 36 or 37 states from which we are allowed to sell firearms to residents.

Also where i work we carry sig, colt, bushmaster, windhelm, and dpms .223/5.56 ars we have a dpms .308/7.62x39 and we have mossberg, colt, sig and smith&wesson .22s

Probably doesn't mean much coming from Wyoming, bu it IS our one liberal county. The Wal-Mart in Laramie, Albany County, has Wyndham Weaponry, Stag, Sig, DPMS ,Bushmaster, and Colt.

Whole lotta zilch in handguns.
