Waist pack for the bike?

A couple of things right off - first, I'm a lady shooter so I'm not caught up with the "Manly thing to do" and second, I'm talking about a bicycle, not a motorcycle. Just to get this out of the way....;)

I just bought a nice Schwinn comfort bike and right away, it occurs to me that I'll need something to carry my wallet and keys. I don't want to pay $100 dollars as the bike I just bought today cost enough. I want to take my Ruger DAO for protection when I ride. Is there something that will allow me to carry all the items and not sag, stay in place, and look pretty?
 
Just been looking around and have spotted the Blackhawk fanny pack which seems to have favorable reviews. I'm thinking of getting the medium size to fit my Ruger DAO, wallet, keys and cellphone. Opinions?
 
I'm not well versed in the "fanny pack/ waist bag" department. However, search for PlayboyPenguin on this board. He generated a thread about using a concealable pack that doesn't look too intrusive.

Also, would you be open to separating your wallet/keys from your gun? What I've had success with was a bag that's made to fasten underneath your bicycle seat. It's big enough to place my wallet/keys as well as essential emergency tools (wheel truing wrench, allen set, etc.).

If you're open for that, then it would open up the possibility to use a holster of your choice. I'm sure you've already considered this but I thought I'd give it a shot in the dark just in case....
 
I initially thought of a just bag for the bike, but I go in town frequently on the weekends and I'd like to carry there too. I'm trying to lose weight, I'm not terribly overweight, but I want to hold off on getting a really nice holster until I'm looking svelte. A fanny pack would be a nice cheap option so I'm focusing more on that.
 
Just checked the guy out you mentioned - God, I'd HATE to look Lesbian....:eek: but the FATBOY™ VERSIPACK someone had linked looked cool. Might think of the fanny pack just for the bike and get this when I want to carry in town.
 
I found the thread that I was talking about that PlayboyPenguin started a short time ago that eventually got closed. I know it's probably the run-of-the-mill pack. But, again, I'm kinda ignorant on the types out there. His seemed to be a bit more geared towards catering to concealing a gun as well as having easy access to your belongings in the same pack.

The only thing I see is it may not ride well for you positioned on the side as pictured. But, maybe you can still have it mounted, yes, over your fanny. The way the gun is positioned in the pack appears to be easily accessible even if you go that route and won't interfere with cycling.
 
Although it's over your budget ($135) and maybe a bit big, but the now discontinued and hard to find Camelbak Demon is a really nice choice for bike rides. It's a 2.1 liter Camelbak hydration pack with plenty of storage for an afternoon ride and a sack lunch, cell, phone, wallet and all the necessities. Touching the small of your back is a hidden gun compartment complete with holster and mag holder. Like I said it's discontinued and hard to find and not cheap but it's a Camelbak and will last a lifetime.

When I go for a bike ride, I always wear a Camelbak and carry in a zipped pocket on it. I know it's slow to get to but it's better than nothing plus I like to have the extra water.

Ditto here...

Its really not all that slow either, if you adjust your tactics a little.

Its also nice to be able to carry anything you need like a raincoat, or tools, tubes, etc.

They make a lot of different models in many different sizes.

If you want to loose weight, your on the right track with the bike. I lost about 60 pounds in three months riding mine. Have kept it off for almost ten years now. I still ride just about every day. In the summer, when I ride longer, you HAVE to eat well just to keep the weight on, and I still get to eat my bag of Hershey's Nuggets a day. :D

It has three pockets, it's designed to have your sidearm in the pocket nearest your body with the hydration bladder in the middle pocket. I find it better to reverse them so the sidearm is in the middle.

In it's original configuration it's slow and loud to access due to lots of velcro and little clearance from your body. The middle pocket is a zipper and loads faster to get into.
 
Fanny Pack

Here is the link to a site that has the fanny packs, belt pouches. I personaly am using the fanny pack now. Two compartments the one in front wallet weekly planer and the back side a Glock 36. It may be worth a look. The belt pouches work well also. Happy shopping.:D

I like the waist packs and bags from PacSafe. The waist packs have a cable in the belt that is cut proof so you don't have to worry about a slash, grab, and run. It's also lockable.

I have one of these in the older model that is orange. I like the brown better but Sierra Trading Post had it cheap. I use it for my P-3AT, wallet, etc. when traveling and car camping.

It comes in two sizes 100 and 200 (click the number in the product name on their site to see either one). I think I have the 100. For your Ruger the 200 might work better.

the design allows you to carry a full size no problem(although it doesnt look possible when seeing it worn)...small...very well made(tough)....quick open strap...completely ambidextrous...3 pockets + the main gun compartment(they no longer have a dedicated phone pocket,its universal now)...holds two spare mags...

i hate wearing a fanny pack(still use a holster most of the time),but this one is so practical and usefull...i grin and bear it.:D
 
Quick question - I notice a lot of fanny packs I've tried for guns have waist lines way too big to fit me. They say a lot of "fits most 50" waists - well, I'm a woman, I have a small waist - thank God - are these fanny packs suitable for women too? I don't want something too big that just hangs....

you mean the length of the belt/strap?the Hawke is adjustable to as small as you'd like.the buckles will move all the way in to the pack.
