VP9 and ammo

I actually had some issues with the M11 when I first got it. The extractor was not working and I was getting a lot of double feeds. I sent it back to SIG and they fixed it real quick. I haven't had any issues since. I've heard this issue is pretty common with the M11 and I wanted to get feedback about the VP9 and ammo/reliability.

RE warranties: I'm not sure what you mean by "good to go" but H&K has a fantastic reputation for honoring its warranties and exceptional customer service. Not that you will ever need it, but if you are one of the very rare ones that does, yes H&K folks are great.

RE ammo: H&K are not the least bit finicky or fragile. In fact they are rugged and it is unlikely that you will dish out more than they can take. I have shot a wide variety of ammo through my other H&K's and they works with all of them. I and still waiting for my VP9 to clear the DOJ waiting period, but I expect it to handle any ammo just the same as my other H&Ks. As one poster said, if in doubt you can call H&K.
Again, it is a bad idea to shoot all lead bullets through a polygonal barrel since the lead fowling is bad. Stick with jacketed.
I don't use steel or aluminum case, but others I've heard have had minor issues with them.
Both of these 2 issues are mention in the manual.
The manual also specifically mention SAMI specks. I'm just speculating on this last point, but that is probably because the VP9's sold in USA are made for the USA market, and that is the USA standard.

I had my PPQ on my belt the entire day and did ALOT of side by side shooting when the lines slowed down. The VP9 is a great gun and felt very similar to the PPQ. There are three top tier new striker fire guns I would recomend and the VP9 is one of them.

I agree with you. I put the current Steyr line right there with the striker fired models from HK, Sig, and Walther. We'll see if the Beretta APX shakes out to be mentioned in this striker fired group.

My VP9 eats any 115, or 124 grain jacketed ammo that I've put through it. I shoot Gold Dot 124 grain JHP ammo for carry and it likes them just fine. You're going to love the VP9. I have one on my hip as I type.

Concerning warranty on HK; as good or better than any company I have dealt with. I have some personal experiences with HK CS that still leave me amazed and appreciative of their generosity. See post 25 and +1 !

X2. In had HK do some custom stuff over the years and they are always accommodating. They stand behind their products.

Great. That's what I was hoping to hear concerning their warranty. A lifetime warranty is a good thing. I just didn't know how their turn around time was, if they were accomodating, etc.

I can vouch for Daniel Defense and SIGs customer service-top notch. It's good to know H&K stands behind their products as well.

Well guys, I decided to keep the M11.... and charge the VP9! Yeah! Nothing says responsible parent like going into debt for a new firearm!

Well, I already took it to the range and fired about 200 or so rounds without a hiccup. I shot WWB, Remington, PMC, Fiocci and it ate it all.

Now I need to start figuring out how to get my next rifle...

One question: anyone have any issues with the slide getting stuck while taking down/reassembling?

You need to push down on the rear of the slide when you're sliding it off / on the frame. Try this - put the slide on the frame and when it seems to "stick," look closely at the rear of the slide and you will see it is raised up very slightly on the frame.

Try pushing down and then let go - you'll see it pops back up - just push down and then push the slide to the rear of the frame.

How did it shoot for you and how did you like the magazine release paddles?

I found that I was shooting it to the left. I'm guessing it was just me as I was adjusting to the trigger. I'm used to the da/sa of SIG. Or maybe that's just an excuse. I'm going back out this week to keep practicing. I thought the trigger was great.

The mag release was no problem at all. I wasn't sure if I would like them or not. But I find them easy to operate with my trigger finger. No problem at all.

Cool. How did it group and recoil compared to your Sig and XD. I like the paddle release design better than the more standard button release.

Well, I don't have enough range time to compare with the SIG or XDm. I just took it out once. I'll bring it back later this week (hopefully) and let you know what the verdict is. Recoil wasn't any more pronounced than any 9mm I'm familiar with. Follow up shots were easy.

I liked the mag release, also. I wasn't sure I would. I didn't how accessible they would be. But I like them. The mag release on the XDm is really stiff and takes some effort to drop the mag. Not so with the VP9.

Overall I'm really impressed and will probably replace the SIG as my edc.
