Vortex or busnell elite?

Thanks for the input, I ordered the viper pst 6-24x50..... I ordered the SFP not the Ffp I couldn't justify the added price.

I'm curious as to the reliability of the vortex, I don.t have one but everyone on here who does says they have great c.s. Why have so many people had to deal with the c.s.? No one from the bushnell camp has said that.

Cjmorgan I've had to deal with them twice. The first issue was my magnification ring became harder and harder to turn until it completely locked up. Sent it in and got a new one in just under two weeks. The second time was because I had a canted reticle. The work order said normally they would repair but the reticle was not something that could be serviced' so they sent me a replacement. This also took just under two weeks. I sent them an email saying they forgot to send back the tripod mount with the optic and in a week I received one with a free hat.

I dont mind if a few more bad apples have squeezed through than compared with other manufacturers (and who is to say that is even the case) because they are so good at handling it when it happens.

Both of my replacements have held up great and had no issues. One was a diamondback scope which has since survived a 3 ft drop on the concrete and is still working, and the other was a recon monocular. I also have a pair of viper r/t binos that have been great from the start.

You will be super happy with the Vortex. I have had good Leupold and Burris scopes and I like my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 more than any of them.

Just got my Diamonback I ordered from Midway, and it's gonna be cool, the Crossfire I had failed, but The Diamondback has a killer reputation so far, it made it through a "Todds Tundra Test" at the St. Croix Sporting goods gunshop. As for Bushnell I can't relate because every one that I have ever got on a used rifle, I disposed of properly!!;)

"VORTEX ALL THE WAY"

Bought the Vortex Crossfire 6-24x50IR, mounted it on a brand new Savage FP10 and began to dial it in. After 8 shots and not a mark on the target or cardboard from 100 yards, I had some help from a couple of excellent benchrest shooters and after 18 shots and no rounds on anything I took my SS 10x42 and mounted it on the FP10 and the first shot was 1 o'clock in the black. It didn't even work out of the box. E-mailed Vortex and will be sending it back for repair. I have 4 other scopes, 3 bushnell and one BSA, and haven't had problem one from any of them. Probably won't be sticking with Vortex anymore.

I have a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm Tactical on my 700SPS Varmint .308. This is my experience 1st it holds zero very well, 2nd the optics are very clear and crisp, 3rd it tracks great and returns to zero when dialing in longer ranges.

Can't commit on the particular model Vortex scope you are inquiring about, but I did have the Vortex Strike fire red dot scope and sent it back because you could hardly see it in day time light, heard they fixed the problem, but it still just seemed like a Chinese made POS red dot, but to be fair Bushnell also puts its name on some low end Chinese garbage.......:) So some of Vortex high end scopes may also be great....:)

Not a very fair comparison. The Vortex Crossfire is a $90 Chinese import and the SS10X42 comes in three flavors, $300, 400 and $800.

A hundred dollar scope is what it is, no matter what brand name is on it. The higher end Vortex scopes have a huge following at the snipershide.

The top end Vipers compare with Nightforce, I've looked through both side by side. The NF may have a slight edge but it cost twice as much.

If anyone is looking for a good deal Midway is running a dealer special on the Vortex Viper 30mm 6.5-20x 50mm Side Focus Fine Plex for $70 off normal dealer pricing. This does not have a mil-dot ot mrd reticle, but it sure is a nice piece of glass for the money.
