Visiting the U.K.- anybody know for sure about the laws?

Well folks, I just got off the Home Office website, and it looks like y'all weren't kidding. It looks like there's a couple of laws that just completely forbid anything that so much could be thought of as a weapon. Nice try, ckurts. They recommend you carry a personal alarm, and even tell you where to buy one. I'm in condition yellow in the city anyway, having already survived Chicago, New York, Miami, and New Orleans to name a few. I won't be letting my guard down, I'll tell you that.

Eric Blair and Mr. Lone Ranger, I'll be in touch by email soon. Lone Ranger, excellent website with a lot of info.

Oleg Volk, your unique viewpoint and experience are always welcome.

Gunter- at least I could carry a "boy scout" or "swiss army" type knife in those border towns in Mexico, where incidentally I was never hassled, either by police or bad guys. It appears to be illegal in the UK to carry possess anything with a blade or point on your person.

From what I've heard, they really MAY enjoy the sight. :D

Remember, sex scandals among Britain's rulers have become so common that under today's mores they aren't really scandals unless they involve livestock...

All kidding aside, I've heard there's a heck of an arms museum over there, which includes a collection of stuff from early armor, English longbows, through muskets up to the most modern Brit infantry weapons. No idea of whether or not it's open to the public, but it's probably listed under "Royal Arms Museum" or "Royal Ordnance Museum" or some such. (Saw it on a History Channel special.)
