I DEFINITELY think YOU should stay away from Taurus handguns.

I don't care if fifty percent of the people out there HATE Taurus handguns just like YOU,YOU should stay away from Taurus handguns.

:D

can anyone find any auto's from Ruger blowing up? I am very curious. Website, picture, story, whatever

It continues to amaze me that people will go to such efforts to make a handgun look bad. The video is obviously rigged. As others have said, where is the shot prior to the KB? It doesn't exist, because that was the shot where an obstruction was plugged into the barrel. Did you ever watch the Guns & Ammo torture tests? All guns go KB like that when the barrel is obstructed. Even the mighty S&W X-Frame...

I don't understand why no one seems to be able to accept a Taurus for what it is: an economy gun. No Taurus is not of the same quality of Ruger, S&W, or Colt nor do they have as good customer service. However, that's why a Taurus is cheaper: you get what you pay for. It still amazes me that people actually think they can pay a Taurus price and get a S&W/Ruger quality product with S&W/Ruger quality service. McDonald's food isn't as good as Applebee's and neither is the service, but you can't get your whole meal for five bucks at Applebee's either. As compared to other economy brands (Hi-Point, Charter Arms, some EAA's, Phoenix Arms, Jennings, Davis, etc.) I would be more inclined to trust Taurus, I just wouldn't expect as much as I do of my S&W's that I paid much more for. FWIW, the reason that I no longer buy Taurus products is not that I'm unsatisfied with the products themselves, it is because of Taurus' dismal resale value.

I agree with a good part of what you are saying. While I haven't experienced it, I believe that Taurus Customer Service is probably not up to par with some of the others. And for that lack of service, I am willing to pay less for a firearm.

I believe that most Taurus handguns are of equal strength as S&W, and some are stronger. I believe that S&W is more polished, and individual guns are probably checked closer at S&W than at Taurus. That's fine. Again, as long as I know that, and I can spend some time going over a Taurus before I buy it, then I'm willing to pay less for it.

I believe S&W is over-priced, and that is the reason so many people buy Taurus.

I believe that the Taurus Raging Bull is one of the finest revolvers in production.

I own several Taurus guns, but they are not my favorite. I'm comfortable with them, though. I'd take one any day before a Charter Arms. Give me a Ruger, though, and I'll be happiest (if it's a revolver).

I hope not. I have a new P90 and I don't want to see any of them Kaboom. Anyway, we all know they are built like tanks and tanks don't blow up...do they.

OK, I did read about a P90 that had a squib load. It bulged the barrel but that was the only part damaged. Ruger replaced the barrel and that guy is still using that Ruger.

Here is a link to another squib round in a P90....not the same story as I listed above.

This is an excellent combat 45. I had mine for 10 years, and the only failures I ever had were related to my learning curve in reloading, if you get my drift. One time, I loaded a squib (no powder) and the primer shot the bullet into the barrel but not out. The next round (not a squib!) ran into that & bulged the barrel, ruining it. But it didn't blow up or hurt me.

If that video scars you from Taurus, then you might not want to buy S&W because some of theirs have been known to do the same thing. ...ba-bye barrel.

Both of my Taurus revolvers have been great. They are not like my Ruger GP100 or the S&W I had but they are solid.

Watched a LEO blow up his backup S&W .357 using his "friend's" hot reloads. Blew the barrel about 30 yards downrange, the top strap about 40 and the cylinder 30. Lucky it didn't do him any bodily harm.

Sure looks to me like Ol' Squibs McGee showed his ugly face that day.

But.....

Stuff like that has happened to every brand out there.

Either way......

(For reasons of personal preference) You won't see me buying any Taurus anytime soon.

A gun that cannot malfunction and even blow up has yet to be manufactured. While there may or may not be serious issues with Taurus's quality of manufacture and post-sales service, this video really doesn't prove a thing, and I don't believe for a moment that their revolvers are especially susceptible to catastrophic failures.

New to gun hobby.

There are a lot of us that are new to this wonderful hobby and ownership. My first gun was bought for me by my wife--a Taurus PT92FS. It has been a great gun and have used it to carry without ever thinking anything about failure. I just purchased a Taurus 327 Magnum.. have yet to take it to the range but will most likely be used by my wife for CC.

I even have a Norinco 1911 that shoots better than most and can hit anything I point at. Very reliable. Most 1911ers would balk at using a Chinese gun but have been offered to buy by several IDPA shooters. They must think it is a good gun.

My point is, there are a lot of different manufacturers and all have their good and bad but also have price points that fit all areas of the market. It just makes me laugh that some people will ridicule someone for carrying a $400 gun and won't admit to carrying a $100 Saturday Night Special in their pocket as a back-up. How can they entrust their lives to a little .22 or .25 that they sell out of a trunk in the hood for $75. Makes me wonder??!!

This has gone on long enough. With no data or post mortem behind the video in the first post, we have no idea what really happened, and the OP has failed to show up to supply any details. Frankly, there is no positive proof that it is even a Taurus. It looks like a Taurus, but nothing in the video says it is a Taurus other a few snide comments added to the video.

The value of this thread in making a decision about a handgun = worthless.
