Video: Taurus is Dangerous.

Yeah.

There's a current thread over in revolvers regarding the Taurus "Raging BS" in 500S&W. I suggested firing it with a bench vice and 200yds of fishing line.

This pretty much sums up why...

Folks, you can almost always find a used S&W or Ruger for the price of a new Taurus. It may not be as "flashy" or "new!" or "tacticool" but it's something you can be confident will save your butt.

I have seen mosin nagants blow up, mausers blow up, m1 garands, blow up, M1a's blow up, brand new glocks shooting factory ammo, a new colt revolver... stuff happens. even with quality control, its possible to miss something, or even not detect a flaw.

alot of times its using the wrong ammo, but even then, like i said, glock is one of the most reliable pistols you can own and i have seen one fail catastrophically using proper factory ammo.

You must bring bad luck or something. I have been around firearms my entire life and I regularly shoot with lots of my friends and have never seen one gun experience a Kb!

If you watch the slow motion, there is no flash from the muzzle only from around the rear of the cylinder in front the recoil shield. That seems to point to an obstruction in the barrel. The cylinder did not seem to fail and the shooter's hand which was next to the revolver, was not hurt meaning the integrety of the revolver's ability to hold the obvious failure of he casing worked. Once again it seems to show that there was a barrel obstrucition which will cause a whole variety of pistol failures.

Without a detailed examination of the revolver by a truly qualified gunsmith, the video leaves a LOT of questions unanswered.

That's an old video. Many times shown. There is also one out there of a Ruger doing the same thing....so what's the point!

Typical rhetoric I heard since way back in the early '80's from gun snobs long past. They never could out shoot mine, though. Some things never change.

There have been failures (blowing up) with Glocks...Berettas and so on...you going to be fair here and stear people away from them? Or just Taurus. Many times turns out to be ammo related.

nope, I've actually never seen one blow up in real life, but rather picture on the internet. I sure hope i never experience one. a little time on Google and I'm sure you can find all the pictures I've seen.

Sharps, if you want to argue Taurus is poor qualtiy..etc, then go ahead. I am not saying at this point they are good or bad. But the video evidence you picked is simply a poor choice and does not support your argument.

I'm not a Taurus fan (just seems like I can always find something else I'd like better for a bit more dough) but that vid proves NADDA. I watched a brand new Smith Mod. 66 blow to bits with Smith .38 Special ammo loaded in it. So what does that prove? Nothing.

Next,
Oly

I would only point out that on the shot that blew up the gun the guys left hand is in a VERY bad spot, or at least darn close to one. Hands near the cylinder gap are in for an owey. Even on a "whimpy" 357, it's not where I'd want my hand.

"TAURUS" sure is a polarizing word here.....No experience, so I don't have an opinion. I have gotten lemons from both Ruger and Smith and Wesson. I still love both brands, however. Buy whatever floats yer boat, and if you get a bad piece, aww crap! Fix it, as I have done, or dump it and buy something else. Same brand or different, who cares? Most guns are cool in some way or another. Just my $0.02 as a "non-partisan" gun nut.

So your freebie isn't working out Jim?

It works, but I researched some before picking that puppy and yeah, Taurus can make an all-steel 23oz 38Spl+P.

IF you stick with basic designs, Taurus usually works, although there are exceptions even there for individual designs...the Gaucho is a classic design if ever there was one but they got that all sideways. And I think their "lemon count" is higher, and their customer service not as good as Ruger or S&W.

But let's turn it around: doesn't anybody here think, on average, that a new Taurus will be a better deal than a used similar Ruger or S&W?

Really? Truly?

Good reply. It seems for some passion for brand names is important. A gun is a non-emotional mechanical tool prone to failures at times...nothing more...nothing less.
