Veteran's preferred pistol

I don't mind the M9 but my hands are a little small for my thumb to reach the safety. I am not a big 1911 fan. They are a pain to field strip and I don't like the grip safety. I prefer a Glock(not a compact) or a good .357 4-6" barreled revolver

USMC Infantry '03-'07... I don't hate the M9 (Beretta 92) as some report. I grew up with rifle and shotguns, knew how to shot pretty well before the Corps, but I had never shot a pistol other than sporadically until then. I learned to really shoot a pistol on the M9, so it holds a special place in my heart.

With that being said, I love a 1911. Don't currently have one (certainly have had several), but it's on my list of things to re-acquire. I have a Jericho 941 (basically a souped up CZ75) that I like, a Kahr CW9 that I carry (kind of like, good pistol just not my cup of tea other than it's comfy to carry), and a Sig P227 and P290 that are issued and carried at work. If I had to rank my favorites... 1911, Beretta M9, Sig P220 (or 227), CZ75... my Kahr has never so much as FTF after several thousand rounds so I have to give it some love. It's reliable, accurate, easy to carry... just not my favorite platform.

Then, of course, I love Ruger revolvers. Have a 6" security six circa 1976ish. I want a Super Redhawk in .44.

Similar to whiskey...USMC '96-'01. Grew up shooting a little, not a lot. Rarely handguns.

I learned pistol marksmanship in the Corps, and was issued a beat up old M9. I grew to hate it. Maybe it's because it had 7,000,000,000 rounds or so through it (exaggeration), but the damn thing was a jam-o-matic, sir-breaks-alot. I qualified with it and carried it, but I prayed I never needed it, 'cause I didn't trust it. Thank god I had my Maw Duece, timed a touch on the slow side!

Fast forward a few years. I have a 1911, and I love it. I also have an XDs .45 that I carry. Guns I wish I had: a Belgian Hi-Power and a G23 or M&P. Wish I still had...a Browning Buckmark. Someday a .357 wheel gun will find a home with me, also.

U.S. Army 1968 -1970. Republic of South Vietnam 1969-1970.

Carried a Colt .45 in addition to the M16. First gun I bought out of the service was a Colt .45. I carry a .45 as my EDC. Have many different guns and calibers in my collection but will not be found without a .45 in my possession. BTW, that EDC gun is a Kimber Stainless Steel Pro Carry. Have been carrying it for about 30 years.

21+ years in the Marines. Infantry Officer. A Gen 4 Glock 26 most all of the time for carry. Every so often a S&W 642. Ruger MK III, Walther (Interarms) PPK/S and a 1911; mostly for the range :cool:e.

I can only relay what my WWII father would say, pistols are really handy for making them duck while you were going for a rifle. Although later in life he did buy a couple .357 revolvers.

1911 Combat Commander, preferably Colt.

Glock 17 as an EDC for me. Shot the M9 in the USN, carried it (without a mag!) on watch. Really really like the 1911 but 18 rds is better than 9 rds. Also having no safety and 10 less ounces is nice too.
