Veterans Day - Saturday, Nov 11th

From one of our veterans (San Antonio Express-News, 11/12/00. pg G1)

The German controllers at Frankfurt Airport were a short-tempered lot. They not only expected you to know your parking location but how to get there without assistance from them.

So it was with some amusement that we at PanAm 747 listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground and a British Airways 747 (radio call Speedbird 206) after landing.

Speedbird 206: Good Morning, Frankfurt. Speedbird 206 clear of the active.

Ground: Guten Morgen, taxi to your gate.

(The British Airways 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and stopped.)

Grnd: Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?

206: Stand by, ground, I’m looking up the gate location now.

Grnd (with typical impatience): Speedbird 206, have you never flown to Frankfurt before?

206 (coolly): Yes, in 1944. But I didn’t stop.

Let’s remember some of our Allies on our Veterans’ Day. Many American veterans would have died without the rest of the warriors on our side. ;)

I loved the above post! In retrospect, I just remembered that my Dad's funeral started at 1100 hrs. yesterday, November the eleventh. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army Air Corps. Although none of us thought about what day it was at the time, I think it was quite fitting. Thank you to all of the Veterans that have served our country!
